    Hi all!

Feeling pleased this evening. Went for a mega walk today with a mate and her son and my sons. Walked for 1.75 hrs and burned PLENTY of calories pushing my son's buggy through mud for a fair way.... ace walk though even if I do have lots of boots, trousers and a buggy to clean tomorrow. On the back of last night's run I reckon I am definitely owed calories!!

Had to get a bit from Mr T tonight. Actually went in for value hot choccy but they had run out. Will need to try again tomorrow.

Spent £3.17 after coupons (worth £8.97) and got nearly £14 (before multi buy) worth of stuff and only stuff I actually did need inc bathroom & toilet cleaner (ok details details). That included a box of McVities Choccy biccies reduced to £3 from £10 for brother's girlfriend's birthday in Feb that are in date till Nov '13 and hubby wants to keep (but he needs to go on a diet so didn't get him some). Happy days!!

Be nice if this could keep up but that depends on availability of coupons this year.... I will spend FAR less this year for certain!!!
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

  • Help! I have just joined your thread and am trying to be organised but have LOADS of stuff to use up... due to poor planning and having a 6 week old and a 4 yr old and no time!

By tomorrow, I need to use 2 large field mushrooms and some chestnut mushrooms, and a bit of garlic bread. Also 6 chicken thighs (bones in) and some natural yoghurt.

I was thinking yoghurt marinaded chicken but have never done it before and cannot think of anything that will go with the mushrooms... any ideas anyone?!

I also have to use in the next couple of days: 3 courgettes, a punnet of small peppers, sweet potatoes and some brocolli

    Lacking imagination tbh xx
    Any ideas welcomed x

    Welcome to the new ones.

Never went out today and stuck to the meal plan. Dentist in the morning with youngest. Made some banana muffins with my 2 dd today, really easy, though receipe seemed to have alot of sugar in it !!.

Oh was out today with ds, he bought some of the coffee he drinks for £2.00 that carte noire stuff, half price. I hate paying full price for that stuff though sometimes i have to as it's the only coffee he drinks.

Hi all, I've been lurking for a while but thought I'd share our latest attempt at eating from the backs of those cupboards...ok so the weird combinations out of the store cupboards continues....... lunch yesterday consisted of 150ml of milk shaken with 2 dessert spoons of extra light mayo and a curry oxo cube then cooked on the hob, added 1/2 can of sweet corn and 1/4 large can of tinned salmon (don't even remember buying this, yet there are 2 tins there!) with a bowl of plain rice.... verdict... well the kids loved it.... me- well I can't wait for the cupboards to be bare!!

Morning all. Ventured out to Toys R Us and ended up getting ds some more Skylanders with his voucher. At least they don't take up much room, and I know they'll be played with lol. Didn't go to Tesco so haven't spend anything on groceries as yet, although I did buy chips, peas and patty in town for us to share - cost £2.50.

Tonight is going to be chicken in BBQ sauce with wedges, sweetcorn and yellow pepper.

lynneee - welcome back to the thread. I need to start using the bread mix I've got stashed in the cupboard, so going to NOT buy bread for the next couple of weeks!

madhatter - welcome to the thread. Nice to see you posting. :) Can't believe you got a free turkey crown! Great stuff!

OLDBILL - yoghurt marinated chicken sounds nice. Last time I had a stash of mushrooms I used them with pasta and philly for a pasta bake. Loved it as I LOVE mushrooms! Never cooked sweet potato, and unsure if I've ever tried it, so not much good there I'm afraid.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Only a day or two ago I made a chicken and mushroom stroganoff with exactly those things!! Roasted the chicken thighs and peeled off the meat. browned the sliced shrooms in butter, softened onions and garlic in more butter then added some brandy, little bit veg stock, lots of paprika and some wostecher sauce. Chucked in the mushrooms and chicken then stirred in the yoghurt (used greek yoghurt instead of cream as were trying to be healthy!!). Serve with your garlic bread and ome rice. it was lovely!

I was dead set on eating from the freezers until last night. Went in to sainsbos for some fruit and they were reducing loads of veg!! Got 4 packs of vine cherry toms for 39p each (made soup with them last night). Got 2 cauliflowers for 24p each (will make some sort of curry thing tonight). and a green cabbage for 19p! Ive still to decide what to do with the cabbage, any ideas?

Anyway, now ive had my bargain fix ill try and stay away from the shops for a while, wish me luck!!

Belated good morning and welcome to the newbies - hope you do well and save.

OLDBILL - I would have the chicken with roast veg and the broccoli boiled or steamed. I would make a mushroom sauce and I use double cream if you have any. Yoghurt, have with muesli.

1HANNAH - nice bit of improvising. lol
I don't like curry, but great the kids loved it.

needtosavE - great bargains, would love some of those veg bargains in my local.
I sometimes use cabbage in home-made minestrone.

Lip_Stick - those Sun holidays?? Can you book for just 2??
I wouldn't mind North Wales and hoping for cheap Travelodge/Premier Inns later.

London Guys - how much is ginger per kilo in the markets??
Morries is about £2 per kilo and Son never brought any back - normally 50p for a small tray.

Toasted hot cross bun for breakfast and soup later.
Thinking of fish and chips from the freezer tomorrow.

Lots of food out of the freezer, cheese and onion rolls, jumbo cheesy garlic bread, and 2 packets of chicken breasts in cheese sauce with mushrooms.

Nothing back in but i'm going shopping later, there isn't much room but if i can get some reduced baps i might try and squeeze a packet in for rolls next week, so we'll see.

  • I need to get back onto the money saving bus big time.
In Sept we booked two holidays for this year in Corfu, one of which we're paying for my PIL as well for their Golden wedding present. At the time I had it all budgeted out and it looked good. Since then however... We had to pay for my father's funeral £3000 (all sorts of complications - we might get some of it back, might not), OH car gave up the ghost so had to buy a replacement £300 a month over three years, the garage roof needed to be replaced £1000 (being done as I speak) and now the fridge has died, fortunately we have an old one in the garage that we can use. So I need to find an extra £8000 this year :eek:.
We don't need to buy much except fresh bits at the moment. I have taken a chicken out the freezer for tonight and hopefully will have leftovers for tomorrow. I have a cauli (looking a bit sad), brocolli, a leek and brussels still in the fridge. I might have to blanch and freeze but at least we only need fruit this weekend then.
I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly :D
