  • Hello all

Have to go back and read a few pages - you guys have been busy in my absence!

I have just come out the other end of a particularly nasty cold/flu bug thing, has taken me over a week to get rid of it - just in time to go back to work tomorrow!!! Bloody typical isnt it!!

Anyway, havent been really eating much the last week while I've been ill - although the massive Chinese meal me and a friend had last week didnt go to waste. The only thing we threw out was the remaining small tubs of sauces (hoisin/red chili) and three pancakes. All the rest I had as dinners a couple of nights running, so now I have more tubs to freeze portions in! :D

    More recent freezer movements -
yesterday we had hotpot - used up a big packet of mince with some leftover swede/parsnip/onion/carrot etc that was in the fridge. Was nice but the parsnip made the gravy go 'sweet' tasting so dont think we'll be having that again! will just have normal potato as usual.

tonight had mini toads in hole using last four frozen sausages from the indoor freezer and 4 little mini yorkshires. chopped up the heart of a leftover cabbage we had for our bunnies, and boiled that to have with it, was very nice :)

cheese wrap taken out of freezer for dinner tomorrow night, plus two soft rolls to make up sandwiches for tomorrow's packlunch for work. Will have l/o reduced ham in those.

Not sure what we're having sunday but Monday we're having the last piece of kidney from the freezer, plus some steak from the outdoor freezer, made with onions and the remaining brussel sprouts in the fridge.

Will make a big salad again on Sunday to use up the salad thats just sitting in the fridge also - have nearly a whole pack of wraps to use up and a whole pack of dairylea so that'll be good for lunches whether I'm at home or work.

got rest of quakers porridge to eat this week and will use up bread in cupboard for toast when that is all gone. really really have to get back into eating cereal for breakfast as I want to use up a half pack of oatibix that's been in the cupboard for ages now - ditto that with the rest of my special k bars lol, still have 5 to get rid of.

sorry for long post :) I'll be quiet now haha. x

Hi Theatregirl - glad you are feeling better.

Still on the freezer mission. Resisted loads fo reduced stuff at mr T last night because NOTHING is going in!

Out came a twin pack of burgers with topping that was quite bulky and two burgers for the boys. Had those last night on french stick tiger bread - yummy.

Today will dig out another meal that is already made and poss curry for the boys but little one still not eating much.

Tomorrow is turkey day if it goes to plan (ie the butcher has managed to get me one) but hoping to have a few days grace as it is fresh so won't have to go straight in freezer if we are still struggling for space. But it will go in!

Don't need shopping which is great. Will only buy the paper today.

Need to sort out some stuff for Christmas today (pressies etc) and also take boys to a craft afternoon at our church (I have to deliver leaflets this morning advertising it locally so best get moving!). And cleaning. Got to do cleaning. Must do cleaning.
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

smegcat - nice to see you back posting, hopefully all your IT issues are over!

Deleted_User - good that you are better, nasty things going around at the moment.

katskorner - good luck with that turkey.

Got a couple of till spits last night, but not the ones I wanted!!
Did buy a pack of 4 nice trimmed pork chops reduced to £1.50, a small loaf for 19p and 2 packs of tangerines @ 25p per pack - total £2.19 - hope the tangerines last until Xmas. lol

    Foodbank - 10 tins of potatoes @ 16p per tin = £1.60

Had toast, ham and cheese toastie later and fish and chips take-away tonight.
This weeks spends will be high .....................scared to add up.

I need a few things, but not much.
Hoping to spend only a few quid today.
I'll pop in Sainsbury's tonight and buy foodbank tea-bags or more tinned potatoes and try yet again for that till spit!
Hubby is NOT getting the Jameson's until I get at least £3 off. :D

Naan bread pizzas tomorrow if I get the naan breads from Lidl later.
I'll get some 40p rice for foodbank, if any.

    Catch up later.

Ocado order arrived today and I saved £8 on offers including 50% off on a mini Twiglet drum for OH and Branston £1 each.

Arranged with my mother that she is coming up on 21st to bring steamer for Christmas puds and be available for any last minute bits. So yeah, not much left to organize for Christmas now.. phew ! Then it will be deep cleaning :(

Do need to get Christmas crackers though.. anyone seen any offers please ?

How are you all doing with Christmas prep ?

Green & Black ice cream is on offer at Ocado again (£3) so I bought three, two for OH and one for Christmas :D.

This week I have eaten up several frozen left over portions so there is a bit more space in the freezer now. Had planned to go to Morrisons today but the central heating system didn't kick in this morning so I am now waiting for british gas heating engineer to turn up, luckily they could fit us in today. Might go food shopping tomorrow instead. Using up some fresh mushrooms today with some pasta for dinner.

    Have a nice weekend everyone.

Not done much shopping lately, as little as possible given how horribly busy the shops are... just stocked up on a few essential mainly organic items but keeping spends as low as poss despite that due to extreme skintness!

Freezer has been emptied and repacked, it's more organised now! found some things not logged and some things logged that I'd eaten which was a bonus!

So all that's left frozen now is listed below, they are all in packs, best bit is the only things that were actually bought were the QMince, bananas and ginger as the rest is either from the allotment or HM.

The QMince will be turned into bolognaise this week with some added beans, the broad beans into a dip and the borlotti beans maybe into bean burgers or just added to a tomato pasta sauce. Sliced beans will be added to pasta or stir fried.

    Quorn Mince 1
    Tortillas 2
    Squash soup 12
    Beans runner/french/flat (sliced) 31
    Borlotti beans 3
    Broad beans 3
    Parsnips 1
    Ginger 1
    Bananas 9
    Strawberries (whole) 1
    Strawberry sauce (glass jars) 4
    Strawberry sauce (bags) 7
    Blackcurrants (whole) 4
    Blackcurrant lollies 4
    Blackcurrant sauce (bags) 6
    Blackcurrant sauce (plastic pots) 2
    Blackcurrant sauce 2012 8?
    Rhubarb 3?

Feel like I am actually getting somewhere with using stuff up now, almost 12 months after starting, still a long way to go though!

Food spends so far this year £809.32, could be lowered as I've still overspent really and had a small amount of wastage.

Kirri - that's quite impressive for the year, taking into account lack of "whoopsies" and coupons to suit your needs.
I've also overspent really on needless stuff, but it would be bland to be too strict. My fun has been the "abuse" of coupons, especially of late and love Morries at the minute accepting almost anything.

Only spent £1.99 so far on a pack of naan breads from Lidl and an iced fruit cake (my Xmas cake - lol) from Sainsbury's (£1.50) - on offer from £2.35 and quite reasonable.
Popping to Sainsbury's later as I still haven't got my till spit .......................... this is a fun game. more lol's

I'm skipping fish and chips as not hungry enough (hubby is not pleased), Snacked too much today on M&S cake and Matchmakers!!
Saves a fiver'ish for another day and keeps this weeks spends down a little.

Got a couple of supa-dupa bargains from M&S Outlet - waterfall cardy for only £8.99 (from £29.50) and a top for £6.50 (from £19.50).
A couple of cardys from Wallis during the week ........................ haven't I done well ........................ I knew those food savings would come to good use!!

Son doesn't want a Quorn roast this year - thank God I haven't bought one and I'm now leaning towards a turkey crown again (I might be indecisive). :D

Good Aldi Super 6 from tomorrow. :j

I now fancy M&S cake after reading about one ^ love the nut/buttercream sandwich one they do... I need to make a cake instead!

and yes am quite pleased with spends, given the previous 5 or so years have been around £1700-£1900! I rarely find any coupons or whoopsies as you say for what I buy and a large proportion of my food is organic. Guess I'm glad I don't eat meat or fish as that would bump it up. I can get Quorn and some organic basics on offer if I'm patient but nowhere near the amount of non org food offers.

What is your son having for dinner instead of the Quorn roast?? I still need to decide on what I'm having..
