I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

I tend to go OTT when buying bargains, forgetting that I am now on my own and do not eat much. I have found that I can use the OOD bread mixes from Lidl ( bought 2 years ago) by adding an equal quantity of strong white bread flour to the wholemeal & rye mix. Using a fresh packet of dried yeast - AND USING THE WHOLEMEAL RAPID BAKE PROGRAM ON MY Panasonic SD 255. Now i get a decent loaf whereas before, when using the ordinary program on timer, the result was dense and pudding-like - not nice, fit only for toast. Now I won't have to get rid of the remaining 15 packets of bread mix - and I can always feed the stale bread to my poultry!:j0

Had some porridge out the cupboard this morning, lifted a rack of ribs out the freezer for OH's dinner, wil marinated these in a bbq sauce later and serve with either chips or HM wedges. I will have l/o pasta bake from yesterday. I think there is 2 servings left so will freezer the other portion.
I really do need to get some bread, crisps and cereal bars (unless i bake some) for lunches. Waitrose is the only store within walking for me, so will go after walking the dog later, and see what i can get - i still need to keep an eye for bargains to have for the 6 meals i don't have in for the rest of the month.Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

Afternoon.
Having a great few days at clearing the freezers.
Had fried egg sandwich for breaks and huuby took some sausage out and had a sausage and fried onion sandwich. Some sausage left (cooked) for another sandwich later.
Having a 35p Sainsburys cod and chips later, with some peas and hubby took out some smoked salmon and is having with poached eggs and peas.
Meatballs out for tomorrow and another past bake and for Saturday I'm taking out a pork joint to make a dinner and probably the same for Sunday.
This lot has cleared some more space and loads of gaps appearing.............................until I hit Sainsburys again tonight. lol
I bought a tiger loaf (ready sliced) from ASDA last week and froze a few bags of sliced bread for toast and I also bought some part-baked bread from Aldi, so that will keep me going for a while.

I got some great bargain this evening,
Everything was on offer - ham for OH's lunch - 85p, bread for sarnies 15p, mini pork pies - 35p, cream 15p crisps £1 and cereal bars £1
Thats lunches sorted for a while. They had some reduced meat, but nothing worth buying as only have 50p off bits, as it's a 2 min walk to the store i maaaay just head over there again before closing incase the meat is reduced even more. But the weather is bad...so who knows!Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

Tesco own brand Fish and Chips on offer at 2 for £3. YUK! I don't object to pollack but I prefer my fried fish to be a (chunky)portion of fillet - not minced fish that has been shaped and pressed into a thin sheet before being battered and part-cooked.
For less money, I could have bought a box of 4 Tesco breaded fillets and a bag of thick oven chips and perhaps enjoyed the meals. I have learnt a lesson, like Morrisons, own brand ready meals can be very unpleasant, Sainsbury's and the Co-op own brand meals are somewhat better. My ready meal buys in future will be top brands on offer.0 -
We ended up being treated to dinner out last night! So tonight is the dinner we didn't have yesterday - this means we're only 5 meals down for the rest of the month.
Last of our fresh fruit for my lunch today and a cereal bar.Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

Considering that it's going to be a tight month in the Kitty household, I am debating doing this. Mr.Kitty is very good eating only freezer food while myself, I buy bargains, freeze them and then never get round to eating them!
I have a lot of food in the freezer, such as boil in the bag fish, ready meals, quorn steaks etc... do you guys buy fresh veg to go with your meals too?Now I am employed, lets get rid of this student debt!0 -
Went to Tesco for a big shop today, armed with my vouchers (2 Daily mail £5 off £40 and lots of others printed off) I got £126 worth of stuff for £83.46, by splitting it into two trollies' worth, which was still more than I wanted to spend but I bought loads of ludicrously priced Always feminine hygiene products (3 females in the house!), plus Vanish and other cleaning stuff. I now have more than enough food to last until the end of the month and beyond, but I have trouble convincing my kids of that. They were looking in the fridges and cupboards tonight saying we had nothing in. I told them that we did, in fact, have LOADS in, we just didn't have any of the carp that they like to eat in! I made minted green pea soup out of some horrible Aldi frozen peas for lunch ( was lovely) and as I had two friends coming round at lunchtime, I made some blueberry scones so there was plenty. Dinner tonight was fish fingers from the freezer, but only I wanted them so kids made themselves bacon and egg butties. I bought some of the buy 1 get two free Muller corners today and kids say they are lovely and have eaten about 4 of them between them already.
The thing I seem to run out of (apart from loo roll - don't get me started on that...) is milk. I use a 2 litre Cravendale every day, and sometimes more so I reckon I am spending over £10 a week just on milk! I won't buy the cheaper stuff though because it goes off quicker and means that I can't buy enough for the week in one go.Jane
ENDIS. Employed, no disposable income or savings!0 -
My freezer is full to bursting with apple puree, beans, and blackberries and also plums the kids picked! I need some more frozen peas but simply dont have room for them! Dinner tonight is green bean and rocket (both from garden) risotto and I will add some bacon bits I am defrosting to Mr Gin's portion (I'm veggie).0

Meatball pasta bake was lovely last night, rich and creamy with added cheese.
Pork joint has defrosted and will cook this afternoon. Found a last packet of ASDA Xmas pork sausage stuffing mix (20p) and will make some stuffing balls.
Stir fry with some of the left-over pork for tomorrow and some sandwiches as well.
Spent a massive 79p in Sainsburys last night (nothing for the freezer), just fruit and veg and got:
Cherrys (£2.50 per pack) - 2 packs at 10p per pack = 20p
Cantaloupe melon (£1)- 19p
Vivaldi potatoes (£2 per pack) - 2 packs at 10p per pack = 20p
Sugar snaps (£1.50) - 10p
Cabbage and leek mix (£1) -10p
£12.50's worth at Sainsburys silly prices, for a bargain 79p.
To be fair to Sainsburys, I find them by far the best (quality wise) with reduced items. Their fresh stuff is nearly always in top condition and most/some stuff has not even ripened - the stuff still lasts for ages. The meat/fish (packed) from Sainsburys is generally of a higher standard also.
