  • Hi all. Have been a lurker for sometime but needs must now and have 10 days until first full pay day for us both - am down to using the freezer + cupboard contents plus the £10 or so left in my purse .. will we do it, although OH has gone into severe depression today because we have no money, I on the other hand know it can be done! Luckily am a keen baker so am sure I can muster loooadds. Running out of loo roll so that is quite clearly an essential though with two teenagers in tow too! Am off to spruce up some frozen mince (which is leftovers from a shepherds pie base) into something spicy and scrumptious with pasta and garlic bread! :)

Welcome to the thread and MSE pixiefairydust and hope we can help you save and budget and get inspiration.
Sorry about your hubby feeling depressed, maybe introduce him to the coupon thread as shown below and perhaps a new "hobby" - saving money and getting stuff for free, nearly free or at least vastly reduced. Read up on page 1 until it sinks in, but many hundreds of £'s to be saved.

    Good luck.

cheerfulness4 - those pork joints may not serve 3, it will be a push - smaller than what I imagined - they looked lovely though.

I agree with you Lynsey. Looked lovely but don't think that they would have stretched far enough for us so left them. :)

    Hi Pixie :D
You'll do it. You sound determined enough. ;) Oh and squish your loo rolls. That'll stop the teenagers reeling it off. :p

Recovering - love the sound of your HM pittas. Are they easy to make?

Very happy with my Lidls purchases today. Got 3x buttery choc biscuits, an aubergine @ 37p, 1.8kg onions @ £1.29 and an 18pk hula hoops for £1.49 to put away for a big family picnic soon. :T

I really must update my sig totals.

    Faggots from freezer tonight.

did the big monthly visit to B&M today and spent £45 quid in there, £17 in cooltrader, £5 in poundland and £23 odd in Lidl... (oh yes and £5 in asda this morning (plus £7 coupons) blowout!

Having food from freezer for tea though - HM curry, naan, side and snacks. Kids had chicken burgers, salad and chips.

Things added to freezer from cooltrader so bursting again but good prices so not worried.

Having BBQ tomorrow so dug out burgers, sausages, chicken drumsticks and also having the tandoori salmon skewers we got today with potatoes and corn on the cob - ohh yum - first bbq this year!
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

No freezer movement today apart from a few peas out for dinner.
We had rice and peas with lamb kebabs/mint sauce & salad - celery, onion, radishes, red cabbage for dinner.

Morning, bright at the moment and hope it lasts so I can get more gardening done.

Sausage sandwich for breakfast and chicken en croute later with tasty tatties.
No shops today and only really need some bread buns tomorrow to make sandwiches for the plane.

Sorted the freezers a little yesterday afternoon and still stuff from last year hiding at the back and something I will clear when I get back. I found some slices beef and turkey breast which I bought from Morries at Xmas - hot beef sandwiches and turkey stir fry there.
Still some sausages and burgers with a 2011 date on them and a few pork chops which need using up. Not too bad really and should only take a week or 2 to get rid of old stuff.

Catch up later - take care.

Morning all. Outside looks lovely. Typical in that the day when ds is with his dad, it's blinking gorgeous. Bet his dad has him stuck in house all day.

Had a nice day yesterday. Went to the fair and took £20 with me. That didn't last long for a little boy whose not keen on rides! He enjoyed the dodgems and fun houses etc. Glad I decided to eat before we went so no money was wasted on cheap nasty burgers.

I made the mistake of going to Morries whilst hungry and spent £12. £6 was on booze tho lol. Bought some ribs, BBQ sauce, kettle salt and black pepper crisps, 7up and some packs of buns for 10p, so got a bargain there. What I don't like at Morries is their lack of own brand things. For example, they didn't have many of their own items in chinese style sauces, it was all blue dragon. Asda have loads, and their BBQ sauce is gorgeous. I did see some of their tomato ketchup for 20odd pence tho! Anyone tried it?

Ended up going back to mam's after the fair and morries, and she said I could stay for tea so had something there.

Off to mam's today and she said if it was nice they'd have a BBQ. Left the ribs at hers so will probably bung them on the bbq.

Deleted_User - I'm like you in that I have a lot in, especially basics such as cereals, pasta etc. Plus I've got the bits that go with it, e.g. meat and sauces. Still blinking spend tho lol. Next week is going to be minimum spends. No food unless it's essential!

Pixie - Good luck with the next 10 days. Write out an inventory of your cupboards and hopefully some of us could suggest ways to get more for your money..so to speak. If doing mince dishes add a load of red lentils to it, just toss a handful or two in whilst cooking. They disappear and bulk out your dish. Can't tell they're there!

ms_night_ryder - hope you all had a nice time at the gathering. Those chilli muffins sound... unusual.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Lynsey - I use my card always. It definitely "registers" more than I'm spending money with cash though. Good idea I'll try it again.

Welcome pixiefairydust and good luck! I'm amazed by the meals people think up of on here. They eat like Kings & Queens :D

All good with me here, still keeping up my 'write what you bite' diary. Quite helpful actually to realise what we eat in a day/week. Looking forward to analysing the monthly trends (how geeky is that!). Had a lovely dinner with whoopsied Maris Piper's and grilled some marinated chicken (from the freezer, marinated it with the array of spices I own and don't use!) and some lettuce out of the fridge.

Got lots of lunch items in at the moment and plenty of bread in the freezer so hopefully won't need to go near a supermarket for a good 10 days.
  • I haven't posted for a week or so as life got in the way and best weather for weeks and I'm going to be stuck behind 20 pupils worth of coursework all day.:(
Welcome pixiefairydust, you sound lovely and optomistic, hopefully it'll rub off on your OH.
We're both trying to lose weight before we go on holiday in July so our salad and vegetable intake has gone right up. I guess we're doing a version of the paleo diet but with cheese and other dairy products thrown in. No potatoes passed these lips for a whole week:) until we had couponed wedges last night:o
PIL came back from holiday so we had a BBQ, lamb chops, chicken drumsticks and sausages all from the freezer. The only things that have gone in last week were a packet of thin sirloin steaks and a big haddock fillet, both ys from sainsbugs.
We popped into B and M yesterday but got out fairly lightly, we did buy some deodrant for DH some fruit and fibre weetabix for him to try as he's down to the last box of the Dorset ones he likes so much:( and both B and M and family bargains seem to have sold out. I got some bits for school but our star find was bottles of co-op caesar salad dressing for 10p:) We also went into our little local co-op to get bread and milk for PIL and found parmesan cheese for 98p down from £3.50, brie half price down to 75p a cheap tub of yeo valley organic yoghurt, humous and grapefruit juice. I'm not sure now why I bought the hummous as I'm avoiding bread so don't know what to eat it with, maybe I'll just chuck in the freezer.
Have a good day everyone, think of me and my coursework mountain.:(
I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly :D

black and white bunny- what does PIL mean? i tend to think you mean pill as in tablet, im so confused as i know tht is not what you mean lol.

Lipstick-the muffins are delish! or as my cousin would say, she text me and said cuz, these muffins are divine lol.

so i have alot of yogurt lemon drizzle cake and 7 muffins, i also have about 5 ribs, so will finish that off, not all today, but will have ribs for lunch, with some muffins, gonna leave a muffin out, but freeze about 4.

i have a ready meal in the freezer a meatfeast pasta bake, i think it was from a family deal, got it whoopsied in mr s, since it takes up alot of space, im gonna use it today, that means no cooking yay! was also thinking of using up one of the apple and apricot crumbles, but i have drizzle cake to eat first.

have 4 days to use up 2 eggs, dunno if i should bake again or? dunno yet.

have a lovely day all, im going to dedicate 2 hours to cleaning today :) may go for a walk also.
