Morning all. Ds is reallyyyyy annoying me. He wants to play fight and I'm not in the mood for it at this time in the morning. Nag nag bloody nag.

Bought a baking tray from TK MAxx yesterday. Doesn't fit in the oven! Annoyed with myself as I did think whilst looking at them 'Maybe I should have measured the oven'.

Off to a fair at around lunchtime. Will probably have an early lunch of feta and red pepper tart from the freezer, then head out as ds didn't want breakfast. He did eat all his packed lunch, all of his tea and a couple of choccy bars his dad brought round for him yesterday, so not surprised he's not feeling hungry.

No idea what I'm going to have for tea, but something from the freezer as need to stop spending with ds' birthday coming up.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Shopped, fed and watered and ready for the day ahead!!

Lidl wasn't as busy this morning, but still a few in - chicken offers definitely have an attraction.

cheerfulness4 - those pork joints may not serve 3, it will be a push - smaller than what I imagined - they looked lovely though.

    Lidl:
    2 x pork joints (honey and mustard) at £1.99 each = £3.98
    4 x Sondey choc biscuits at 43p per pack = £1.72
    2 x bitter lemon at 19p per litre = 38p
    1 x de-luxe fudge at £1.25 = £1.25 ***
    1 x choc raisins = 69p ****

    Total = £8.02

    Aldi:
    2 x Quixo gravy granules at 75p per tub = £1.50
    1 x choc digestives at 59p = 59p

    Total = £2.09

Total so far today = £10.11 - but only milk needed if I don't use the Cravendale - we'll see.

Off to Home Bargains for some cheap sun tan lotion (got some and just need 1 bottle) and maybe some crisps .................. but only if they have Red Sky at 59p.

    *** my treats.

Good luck with your budget Lynsey, I need to take a leaf out of your book :)

Not sure what to get out of the freezer for tonight's dinner. Bought some whoopsie'd potatoes yesterday so might use them up. Might slice them and fry them as a treat. Think I might have two lonely lamb chops in the freezer too so might get those out and have some lettuce. There we go, lamb chops, fried potatoes and lettuce, that sounds ok!

Keeping away from the shops today :D

May sound strange, but actually visiting the shops helps with my budget. Bargains virtually every day to be had.
My "fear" is having to pay full price and the more I get and stash at around 70%-80% off, the greater the help to the budget.
My mantra this year as previously stated is "get as much as possible for as little as possible" - so I don't really mind'ish spending £25 - £30 per week on food, drink and snacks - it's what I get for my spend that counts. I've been ticking over and just replenishing what's used and again, very surprised I have been able to maintain stock levels AND sticking to budget.

I think the only way to reduce my freezers would be to reduce my budget even further ..................... or of course they stop the "whoopsies".

Leftovers for lunch for me, most of the bacon i took out of the freezer has gone. I have a bit left for the kids cheeseburgers which i will cook shortly. Also found some sliced beef in the freezer which will do for lunch tomorrow. I didnt have to struggle so much to put everything back in.

I think this is what I do too but if I only have budgeted £20 and actually spend £50 every time I go, even if they are bargains, it isn't helping me to stick to my budget. I think you are doing wonderfully with your challenge :D :T
  • Lynsey - glad you got the pork loin joints - my Lidl have the frying steak on offer today, so I didn't bother.

NSD today (enforced as pay doesn't go in to bank until tomorrow or Monday).

Had a brunch of sausages and scrambled egg with half a hm pitta and am stupidly full after it!

Dinner tonight is the Sainsburys TTD beef and west country cheddar burgers (YS) in buns with salad and maybe a jacket potato. Can't wait to try the burgers as they look yummy!

Need to get the beef joint out of the freezer for tomorrow's pot roast lunch.

  • Afternoon all!
Looks like everyone is doing well!
So far still using up cereal (free shreddies from last yr I think!) and have several boxes in the cupboards so no breakfast stuff needed for a while!
Fruit and veg stocked up and fried up some courgettes, mushrooms and onions which I have frozen. Pasta, rice, cous cous got them overflowing the cupboard so wont need any for a while..
Did some baking yesterday flapjacks, choc krispie cakes and bread with a breadmix found lurking in the cupboards - quite satisfying to create so much stuff out of things we already have in! :)

Leftover pizza and soup from the freezer for today and tomorrow ..

Are you paying cash or by card??
Maybe just take out cash with a max you want to spend and see if you can control it better.
I am doing well, but at times I make it hard work!!!

Another 79p spent this afternoon in Home Bargains on some chocolate seashells - not bad for 200g.
Lottery on and NO more spending today and accounts added up - messed up 3 x 6 weeks total spends by 20p last week, so corrected and amended. Took 5 minutes to work out where it had gone wrong. lol
Spends so far have now gone over the £400 mark - £405.16.

Todays spend came to £10.90 and weeks spend (week 19) came to £25.16 and pleased with that and quite a bit unused.
Sadly, spent £5.04 on "goodies" today and budget inflated because of that (5 packs of choc biscuits, 1 box fudge, 1 bag choc raisins and a bag of seashells). I'll try and make it last. :o

Just made my meatball pasta bake and just needs finishing in the oven tonight - well under control today.
