Sat we had a go at barbequeing a piece of belly pork, it tasted fantastic but we couldn't get it to crackle

Hubby does our pork and always gets the crackling perfect.
He starts it off in a wok, believe it or not. Just a little oil and sears the skin and browns off the meat and then into a hot oven - works every time.

Well done on "educating" your MIL, seeing is believing - it can be done - thankfully.

hannahbroke - welcome and good luck.

    Morning all!
Have taken the mince out of the freezer for tonights dinner (spag bol).
I can FINALLY see space in my freezer and cupboards!
Not for long though, as i'll just had to re-stock on payday (April 23rd)!

    I ache..

VfM you should have a medal for eating Weetabix, it's either throat-irritatingly dry like pressed sawdust or wet like mushy babyfood..OH claims that's why people like it..

my Dad always used to eat weetabix with butter and jam on! Actually it tasted alright but I could never really fancy it.

I'm also thinking of making some bread, scared to use the Wright's mixes now though I have left (3 packets), they feel "tainted"!!! Got some flour and loads of dried yeast, maybe a good thing the Wright's issue was highlighted, or the yeast would probably have just sat there!! Trying to stay away from couponing for a few weeks, though 1 or 2 to use if I go to Tesco.

I'm going to write a list for this week and try and be frugal, only fresh stuff and a bag of sugar really needed. Stock cubes are getting low and last bottle of ketchup, vinegar low also. A trip to Home Bargains looks imminent.

hang on... what is the thing with the Wrights bread mix? I have got loads from the coupons!!!

A friend of mine brought round some meat from his friend who is a butcher and he also brought me some free range double yolker eggs - OMG I am obsessed with finding double yolker eggs so I was so delighted (I suppose I should really be thinking about getting out more;)). he brought me loads of sausages, a huge ham shank, a huge piece of belly pork, the eggs, 2lb of shin beef and the whole lot was just on £15.

I also went to Waitrose with a friend on Saturday and timed it right as they were just reducing all the butcher counter meat to less than half price - I got veal escalopes, lamb chops, oxtail, pork steaks, skirt steak, shin beef, belly pork, bacon, chicken breasts, minted lamb meatballs, faggots and I also bought some other bits around the store and ended up spending just on £30.

My freezer is now full to bursting with meat and really I shouldn't need to get any more for the rest of this month, or even a bit beyond.

I haven't had any breakfast today (wasn't hungry), lunch for us all will be lamb meatballs in pittas with mint riatta and lettuce and dinner is beef strogonoff using some of the sirloin steak I got reduced. Too much red meat but ....

I need to go to Tesco as I have coupons for £1 off teabags to use and I do actually need tea bags, plus I have a load of wrights coupons which I was going to use but I think I will wait until someone replies with what is the matter with the wrights mixes!!

Lynsey - sorry about your rainy break. It's freezing here today - mind you I have just been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid so that isn't helping.

^ the flour itself is ok! just that it was later mentioned that Wright's had done the coupon for a charity bake... and some other nasty comments about people using the coupons were then made on an external website reporting on it..

Jane, highlighted in this post: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=52096159&postcount=3287

    Bit of s sickener!!!!

bramble1 - well done on your almost 2 free freezer drawers.
This is something I'm aiming for now, hopefully over the next 2 months - 1 free drawer per month.
This will serve 2 purposes, save money (help 2nd quarter budget) and reduce old stock - easier said than done though!!! If only they would temporarily cease "whoopsies".................oh, and Lidl half-price weekends. :D

My veggie day is on target. lol

^ Must admit although I felt bad when I read about it, I am not feeling too guilty sat here eating my 9p rolls...

Oat and linseed today - very yeasty, the dough was almost out the top of the bread pan and a bit saltier than I would like but made quite nice rolls. Not bothering to cook so just having a couple of these with cheese now. Wish I'd bought the £1 Tyrrells crisps in Morries last week as they would have gone down well with these, I saw them then totally forgot to go back and pick them up.
  • Evening all,

    Welcome hannah

:j I have a new bed :j They turned up at 8.50am, rather keen for a Monday morning but saved me waiting in all day so really pleased.
I know these things come flatpacked but really do they need to make it into really small planks of wood? Why not just a few largish pieces?? :rotfl:
Anyhow I built it (yes by MYSELF) who needs a man aye, even if it did take 2 hours rather than the recommended 45mins :o
It's sooooooo comfy can't wait for bed!!

Really excited aswell as I recieved another £50 of l2s vouchers from mission control, that's £60 in total now which means I can get some new wallpaper for a feature wall and a few bits to brighten my bedroom up!! Hopefully the other £50 will arrive so I can get some curtains aswell

Finally things are going my way for a change lol

    Welcome hannah :)

Well done on putting your bed together brighteyes :T

Over at the parents this week, dogsitting. Cooked the Morrisons pizza swirls mix my mum got from approved foods. They were....edible, very doughy & not fantastic tasting, apparently they're worth £2 a box which is ridiculous

Not been food shopping so far, as over the parents & raiding their fridge ;) Will buy butter etc to make cupcakes for Easter :T and need to get an easter egg for another friend's child...bloomin' expensive having friends with kids ;)
