I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

Well, I'm finally safely back at home after 3 weeks+ away. Left all but one bar of chocolate stashed in my parent's drinks cabinet, the one I have taken will only be eaten if I'm desperate. My sister was unusually thoughtful and left 4 pints of milk in my fridge....having assessed the contents of my freezer and cupboard, as long as no-one pops by unexpectedly for a cup of tea in weeks 2-4, I think I could easily manage w/o shopping at a supermarket for 4 weeks. I've still got 48 Weetabix and a stash of Branston baked beans 4-packs that I bought 3 for 1, but would have to be quite desperate to eat them! For years I've had the mentality that there must be bread and milk in the house, since I joined this thread I've realised that it is possible to make do without it, so let me see! Now it's summery, there will be a better variety of stuff on the fruit stall, so I'm looking forward to that.
I wonder if Lidl weekend offers will tempt me at all? Unlikely, as they are usually for meat and processed foods. If I do buy anything from the supermarket it will be a want and not a need lol. We shall see....
I am still like that with bread anyway! I find it so easy for breakfast/lunch though, I don't feel comfortable without anyway but it's weird to feel like that! I probably tend to eat unhealthier alternatives if I don't have any.
4 weeks without going in a supermarket would be impressive.. could you freeze a portion of the milk just in case of visitors? I tend to keep milk in, albeit soya milk as I would use that myself, but it's mainly for visitors - I don't drink tea/coffee so don't need it myself unless I am making something with it. I try and get enough tea/coffee freebie samples to save me buying it for them though at least! It's like a lucky dip pot of mixed brands!0 -
Miss my cat. All the funny things they do. Even eating your pastry! How could he have enjoyed that?! :rotfl: How old is he?
Cheerfulness4 - Judging by the amount he ate, he really enjoyed it. He's about 21 months old. He's going through a really naughty phase at the moment, but I guess in cat years he's a teenager, so it's to be expectedId like to make quiche as Ive never made it but LOVE it and it seems cheap and will go a long way for lunches etc.. a quick question to the quiche makers- can you freeze it when youve made it?
Deleted_User - I think Kirri replied to this. I always forget how simple quiche is. A useful measurement I picked up the other day is 1 egg for 1/4 pt milk. Otherwise you can basically chuck anything you fancy/have hanging about in. The spinach and cheese combo is lush. I also once made broccoli and cheese, very nice.
Question for Kirri re quiche - do you freeze them uncooked or cook then reheat? Do you defrost first or just go from frozen? I make a big one only for the reason that rolled pastry in France comes in a circle, so no faffing about cutting.
Btw, bf was so impressed with the almond biscuits, he got me to translate the recipe for his daughter to make.0 -

I freeze them mostly cooked as my freezer is small and I don't have room to put them in flat with a runny filling. I defrost if I have time but they cooked just as well from frozen though mine don't have meat in, not sure would be as safe with meat in from frozen? I just put the foil over the top so it doesn't burn. They aren't as good frozen when cooked and reheated though, I might try part baking them then freezing next time.
Good to see the almond biscuit recipe went down wellAm going to make some more myself this week, it's warm here so these are ideal to take with me on a day out. I did make biscuits this week but did iced Easter biscuits for the first time.

Afternoon.
NSD today due to painting day, possibly only 1 day of painting left and just a bit touching up, the end is nigh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the support, but remember there are only 2 of us and budget doesn't include eating out, alcohol or non-food items. I started off with far too much and that's still the case now and I could possibly do the next 12 weeks the same, even less if I just used the freezer stuff. Only "whoopsies" and offers meat-wise for the 2nd quarter and from 1st April we are going "veggie" 2 days per week, no set days, just any 2 out of 7.
A great community here and we can all help each other to save with support, tips and cheats.
I've never really made quiches, not in ages anyway, maybe I should have a go??
Deleted_User - yes print and use as many as you want/need and stock up in December for next year before the coupon ends. This is one of those "madness" coupons................gratefully!!

Been quite good in using up from the freezer, used quite a lot this weekend, including 500g of mince for lasagne tonight bringing my freezer use up to 10/44.
Did pop into supermarket today when DS14 was in Smyths and spent £26.00 on milk, butter on offer, sandwich ham and lunch box treats. So should be able to do a £5 max veg/fruit top up from farmshop through the week on way home.
That would be amazing spent for me under £35 for the week. That is my mission.:j DEBT FREE FROM 01/01/11 :j

Took me ages to try and get BlackBerry onto BST and realised the reason it wouldn't change was it was set on GMT for Lisbon and Casablanca duh. Then discovered that hands are loose on bedroom clock so it's gaining time !
Am stuffed with sausages, hope every one well, recovering from dentistry OK.
I'm so glad I don't drive I think I must be saving myself ££££0 -
Hi all, hope everyone has been enjoying the weekend.
Went out yesterday with the folks as mam is looking for bedroom wallpaper/bed set, and I'm after wallpaper for the lounge (not that I can afford it yet!). Went into House of Fraser and they had a duvet cover reduced from £160 to £47. It looked very nice too. If I had the money I'd have bought it there and then. Hopefully it'll still be in the sale by the time I get paid lol.
Also yesterday I got a letter from job centre about the new rules coming in for lone parents of children age 5 upwards having to sign on. Turns out the new rules start a week before ds turns 5. Great timing!
Anyway, decided to make tuna pasta bake for tea last night. Had a NSD today and had all meals at the folks so saved there. Went to Hornsea Freeport for a couple of hours, thick fog was rolling in off the coast by the time we were leaving.
No idea about meals tomorrow but I've got some chicken pieces out so it'll have to be something to do with those lol.
Lyra, thanks for the info about the museum, looks really good! There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -

Ohhh thats not good, but it might be less than you think. My fingers are crossed for you . I've had serious issues with my car too. Over the past 3 months it's cost me £1500 in garage bills. But i need a car to do my job. The amount i've paid out is about the same as wat the car's worthHopefully, it's ok now for a while.
My freezer, after emptying almost 2 drawers of the 4, is now getting full again. Sadly, whoopsies evade me at the mo. I never seem to get to supermakets at the right timeStill, apart from fresh stuff and a few cans of tomatoes I have enough in the cupboards to add to freezer contents and create about 3 weeks of dinners
Thanks for the coupon hint about the wright's mixes Lyndsey. Not used them yet but will be after payday next weekI love making bread. :T
