thanks Bramble - will get one tomorrow!

by far the best value eggs at the moment are the Sainsburys Basics ones - a pack of 18 for £1.78. They are meant to be barn eggs but some are free range and even organic - I always spend ages going through all the boxes looking at the codes!! I have had organic the last couple of times.

Lynsey - the problem is that the cumberland sausage is cooked. My sister is coming tomorrow night and I am going to do baked potatoes with a number of toppings - I think I might do some peppers and onions in balsamic and then mix in the sausage. If I add loads of black pepper and don't add salt it should be edible!!

Jane, you could still make a curry topping with them, just chop them up.
You suggestion should also mask the salt...................hopefully.

    What brand, if any??

Gailey, forgot to ask, but how many do you "cater" for??
Hope you and little one recover quickly, very quickly.

Kirri, you love you cakes, wish I could make good ones!!

When I pop in to Aldi later in the week I'll get the veg to make a pan of minestrone.
I had a good recipe for a great pizza dough once, but can't find it!!
Might try and make the pizza dough in the breadmaker and make some calzones. I like an oil based thin dough.

Thanks lynsey find budgeting quite hard as depending on whoopisies minthly can be flexible as sometimes liek you say see a bargain buy in bulk saves in long run.

    Im catering for

    2 adults
    5year old nearly 6
2year old-shes a snacker-semi pottytrained use lidls pullups and milk monstor hence why we get through 4-6pints of milk a day wih her bottles, teas coffees, hubby and eldest like drink milk and everyone loves there cereals so about 4-8bowls of creal a day which is brekie, snack or supper
fussy 10month old baby who likes expensive baby pouches and fromage frais but thankfully breastfed and use cloth nappies on him.

hubby and 5year old take packed lunches 5days a week.
try and ensure everyone gets their 5 a day.
we not huge booze drinkers maybe twice a week for me and twice a month for hubby

try ration crisps to 1pack a day
limit pop use double concentrate squash
    limit choc and biscuits
    cake maybe once a week
do 2-3 loads of washing a day!
get through packs wetwipes a week
toiliet roll would say 4rolls a week, dont buy kitchen roll.
    hubby likes his meat.

when stepson comes to stay once a month more
usually have one of eldests freinds over for tea once a month and 1 of my freinds.

coffee my downfall cant exist without it like lilds gold but even thats going up.

im on sw diet which means lot of fruit and veg so try and buy a lot frozen.

    we either buy value
shop offers and reductions hence why find instore better than online although have used online before.
trying to shop in as many places as possible.

looked at printer its crap seen cannon wireless printer in argos going to get as can then start couponing.
signed up to few free samples on freebie board
    going to target poundshops.

looking for cheap bike on ebay to get to store to buy reductions that way can do several stores in one night.

really want a stockpile and last year and last winter did really well but like i say since october 2011 been trying to spend the min.

I have ate most of whats in my freezer in jan
ate most of whats in cupboard.

anyone know of out of date bread mix ok like 6months or out of date flour?

noticed value going up recent months so been buying lilds 10pack toiliet roll which is ok.
farmfoods and lilds cheapest for milk am cancelling milkman this week.

i have only brought what we run out of
    reduced bargains

in jan and done so pretty inventive meals.

this week lacking time so doing small £50 online shop in addition to reduced hunt, butchers and adli supersix.

lild and farmfoods have to wait until next week.

then will do morrisions near end of month.

wil keep checking spar and co-op as best reductions here.
hubbys committed to trying big tesco and different sainsburys on way home from work.

new grocery challange month starts feb 15th and set £250 but unsure how much decent stockipile and refilling store cupboards will cost as so low in freezer and cupboards.

    Thanks gailey.
It will be much, much harder for you as you "cater" for 4, plus others at times. You do need to shop on a weekly/daily basis, I could go for days with just basics.....if I had the willpower!!
Getting enough "whoopsies" may be difficult to get every week, hence why I like to be "fully loaded" and just top up. A few "whoopsies" goes a long way for just the two of us.
I'm not a fan of Poundshops generally and the price is fixed, obviously - some £1 things can be picked up cheaper in Home Bargains etc.

How many freezers do you have??

I have noticed on both this thread and others how very hard you are trying and the weekly offers should help, Lidl half-price weekends, Aldi Super 6 and Morries have the 30p fruit and veg this week. A good week or two for savings and a few meat "whoopsies" would help.

Tesco had a bike offer on the Grabbit thread.

Coffee is my downfall, I like Nescafe. Got about 4 jars left from Sainsbury's when they were selling 200g jars of black Gold Blend for about £1.75 and got some Kenco Rapport. I'm on the look out now for Nescafe, hope Morries do the 2 for £5 again soon!!

Toasted hot cross buns for breakfast and finish of the pork casserole later.
Having a look at the Morries 30p offers later when I shop for my brother, see what they are like.

Ooh let us know what 30p veg is in Morries this week if you do go, Lynsey. I will be going in there later today or tomorrow so will have a look.

Also for veg, buying just seasonal British veg can be a lot cheaper, we are mainly programmed to want the same veg all the year round but then we pay for it too... also look at market stalls for veg as even in London they seem to be cheaper than the supermarkets (though obviously can't compete with things like the ultra cheap offers).

    Today:

Breakfast - Got tiny bit of bread left so not enough for toast alone, will have an egg with it.

Lunch - might cook the 7kg pumpkin that has been sat on the tiny table since October! I need the space back!! and do the lentil and squash soup again, also need to make bread.

Dinner - bought a romanesco cauli for the first time so will be attempting to do something with that!

Thanks trying really hard as last 6months all the value stuff in sainsburys going up very frustrating.

we been doing lids for years but last few months only really discovered the weekend deals but last 2weekends by branch not had the amazing steaks.

hubbys being doing super six as works next door to aldis

hit co-op 3-4times aweek for reductions and spar.

farmfoods miles away so dont do as often as would like.

    tried doing online.

literally everything i can to ensure we have lovley meals and snacks for less.

I have 1 very large chest freeer contemplatinging small upright but unsure where to put it.

doing well on reductions in terms of bread.
    meats getting harder to find.
fruit and veg -keeping costs to min even more in summer with stuff from garden,

its the everyday grocery storecupboard items that bump stuff up.
a good basic storecupboard shop things like tins, pasta, herbs, spices costs me about £100 and will last me 3months.

Then theres the snacks and treats

    crips
    biscuits
    chocs
    cakes
    pop/juice
    cereals

    dont seem to last 5mins

milk. cheese, butter and yogurts definatly a weekly thing

household including wet wetwipes, pullups washing powder and cleaning stuff guess least £20 a month!

will get cheap coffee but has to be gold so sainsburys gold or lilds granarome. like douwe buit rarly on offer.
nescafe alta ricas nice and on offer in co-op 3quid so still pricey.
    love waitrose own brand gold.

im sure will work it out.

plan to spend £100/250budget this week on

    £50 online
    £15 marks-birthday cake
    £5 aldis super six.
    £15 butchers
    £20 offers and reductions

spend least £8 a week on milk alone.

then next week do £60 shop farmfoods. actually 55 with coupon.
maybe 30-40 lidls on storecupboard-wonder if paper do anymore £30 vouchers?

which then leaves about 60 for reductions and random offers elsewhere.
