Which area of London do you live in Kirri??
My son used to live next to Brixton, great cheap market there, fantastic vibe.
He's living near Shoreditch now and last time we were there we went to Ridley Road and Hoxton markets - not as good as Brixton though.

    Thanks jemb and welcome.
Please try and post every day or as often as possible. Great little community here and the more tips/cheats/help the better. We can all save, have great food and motivate each other.

Sorry completely missed your post! :o I don't take ds in the car, it's my neighbour who does as she takes her grandchildren to the same school on a couple of days. I have to walk. :( Takes about 25 mins there and about 50 mins back when I've got ds and his little legs with me lol. Had to get rid of my car when I got made redundant.

Oh no that's a slow walk back then in this cold!!
Know what it's like as while I'm out of work I can't really afford to use mine.

I've been to Brixton and Shoreditch but only for gigs! I'm South London but right towards the edge so I usually only go to places on the outskirts of London unless I can get a bus! (cheap) Nearest big market to me is Surrey Street in Croydon which is quite vibrant and cheap! I have to go that way next week so might pay a visit actually. I want to go to Borough Market but not sure I can afford that!!!

    Welcome jemb :)

You're right, it's far too artisan and expensive but you can incorporate it into a walk along the South Bank for a cheap Saturday outing, then onto the Tate Modern...not my cup of tea at all though, I much prefer fine art.

I have finally got a free freezer compartment...yippee! In the interest of efficiency, I think I use this to store milk and loaves of sliced bread (reduced of course) so should get a better turnover of food from it. After a seriously bad week , I'm day 4 into not eating sweet foods and it seems to be working so far. Why is temptation everywhere? I'm just one bite away from going back to sugar but beating it for the moment.

    Hi guys

got freezer envy as all I have in mine is

    2packs of mince
    half bag oven chips
    frozen veg
    frozen partyfare
    bread loaves and rolls
    20bags of plums
    5pasties.

so really is quite dire as no other meats or hm readymeals
nothing breaded to go with chips

cant wait to go farmfoods on payday even run out of peas!

Been reduced hunting last few days and picked up mostly fresh salads, reduced fruit including blueberries 49p.

I did manage to get after slimming world some reduced venusion meatballs and garlic bread in morrisions so thats on menu tonight.
    sausage casserole or fish tommorow.

last 2nights has been sausage related

    wed-cooked partyfayre cocktail sausages
    then places in yorkshire pud
    placed in oven for 5mins
served with mash and frozen veg with valoue gravy to make mini toad in the hole!

    yesterday

cut up reduced rolls into quarters added sausage and ketchup to make mini hot dogs served with chips. dont think everyones loving teh sainsbursy basics chips but needs must right now.

unfortunatly ran out of few essentials this week so looked round whos cheapest and stocked up

    got coffee-on offer
    nappies-reduced
    sugar-value
    washing powder-value
    eggs-on offer
plain flour as dident have any.

planning on doing sokme blueberry muffins with reduced blueberries I brought.
might do some fairy cakes too.

managed to get some reduced butter so if can find some cheap ham and cheese want to batch cook mini quiches for lunchbox next week.

Also all this col weather really need to make some soups.

if can spend few quid this weekend can buy some stuff to make lasage as makes 6-8 portions and 1more load of sheperds pies to make the 2remaining pack mince go further.

Think have 1 more pack sausages.

despertly need cheese as can then make

cauli cheese for girls as have frozen cauii

lookout for muffins too to make kids mini pizzas

but plenty of bread flour so will do pizza least one night next week.

if cant find cheap meat will being doing veggie curry and hubby will hate it.

will try and get least 1pack of steaks.

Hi Lip-stick, I too used to have to walk my littlies a long walk to/fro school and i found that my bike speeded things up no end.
My daughter had a proper bike seat on the back and she rode in this until she was almost 4 (gave her excellent balance and road sense when she did come to ride her own bike!) and my son who is 2 years older was happy to ride on my seat whilst I pushed them along - it took effort and stamina but it helped those little tired legs at the end of the day and we all got home much quicker.;) and if either had lots of energy they could run/walk whilst I pushed the other.
Looking back it was a lovely time and i really enjoyed biking around with a little passenger on the back and being a 'Mum taxi'.:)
  • I have done really well this week, all meals have been from home, home made or from stocks in freezer batch cooked on weekend, or used up stuff, have brought my lunches in everyday, beef pie or beef and rice. Have not really needed to buy anything and have spent £7.25 on persil and some strawberry rolls for the whole week, i'm very impressed, still have alot of food budget left and i dont really need anything, so thats good hopefully i can stay on budget.

Had the last of the beef for dinner with chips and i had premade some garlic butter in the freezer so stuck that on the beef to stop it drying while in the oven and it was yummy! so need to batch cook this weekend for next weeks lunches, going to my grandmas for dinner on sunday, so will cook before i go and hoopefully tomorrow.

Going to a bit of work tomorrow and then a massage, will need it by then, courtesy of kgb deals.

Lyndsey, i grew up in brixton and now i live 15 mins away from there, will be visiting the market on sunday, all the shops lining it are open, we are really lucky with that down here.
