Hmm, I've got stuff in mine over 2 years old although not meat - I'd probably eat it though all the same! The only thing that would make me want to throw it out is if it belonged to/reminded me of an ex!
  • Hello everyone. I would like to join your forum to help curb my spending and need the support. Not in debt though which is good.

This is my rant which you don't need to read. I've put it here because I want to see it in black and white, to keep my promise to myself and be accountable for the choices I've made. At the end I've written a letter to the supermarkets. Again, no need to read.

    THE RANT.
I have one not-so-big freezer that is full at the moment and have three cupboards that are reasonably full.
I want to stop buying food just because I'm dazzled by the offer. I want to be in control of where my money goes and not to the supermarkets promotional gimmicks.
I'm mad with myself when I look in my freezer and see all those "bargains" that I wouldn't normally buy. I bought 20 bags of pasta 'cos they were reduced. The "deal" returned as a 2 for 1 offer within 2 weeks, no less.
My promise to myself: Don't buy something just because it's on offer - the reason why it's on offer is never in your favour but only the SM's. Eat out of the freezer and cupboards for as long as possible, even if this means pasta cooked up in 100 different ways. With your stock - you will not starve.

Dear Supermarkets, I'm afraid that our long and established relationship will have to end. I am no longer interested in parting with my hard earned money so frivolously on your "bargains" thats are of no benefit to me (and waistline - but that's a different rant)

With this forum, I am armed with knowledge, expertise and support through the coming dark days but there will be a light at the end of the tunnel and that day will be - when I can see the bottom of my freezer.

    Thanks and rant over.
'If you are not in the 'arena' also getting your a55 kicked then, I'm not interested in your feedback.' Thank you.

If it was meat that I'd actually eat I would but I don't really like much (chicken and mince are pretty much it!) so it's not things I'd cook with any way... I think I'd be better binning to clear space of batch cooking and the like!

If you don't fancy eating it that's fine, but have you got a dog or cat?

I have also got stuff in my freezers over two years old. If we wern't going to eat it, I don't think I'd throw it out, I'd probably cook it well and give it to the dogs. I already do that with the chicken bits left over from making stock - all the bits of skin and meat, mix it with either bread or pasta - they love it.

In to freezer - HM Spinach Quiche + HM Cinnamon/Sultana Muffins.
Out of freezer - Fish for tomorrow's dinner.
I made a Spinach Quiche for dinner - we had it with roast sweet potato + brocolli/carrots. I have some LO HM Shortcrust Pastry in the fridge. Also baked some Cinnamon & Sultana Muffins.
