You can store apples as they are, if kept in the right conditions. Don't think all varieties store though.

Or if cooking apples you could prep them ready for pies etc.

    Edit, just checked re storage:

No idea re pear storage! but good luck with the stick :rotfl:

Just been cooking again here but nice, quick meal - Waitrose Weekend Mag June recipe for stir fried egg & pepper quinoa.

    Costing for me was:
    35p for 1 organic egg
    20p for 30g organic quinoa
10p for 30g organic bulgar wheat
'Free' (home grown) peppers, onion, garlic, carrot & basil
    So serving for me 65p.

440kcals apparently but seemed quite a large portion for a lunch.. 15g protein so good veggie meal.

Plus used some of my quinoa stock I've had ages... mixed in with bulgar it's much better, will make this again.

  • Hi just found this thread along with some older threads about eating for 50p a day. I'm needing to drastically reduce our food bills to sort out our finances so I'm looking for any money saving ideas and cheap meals.
I've got bags of lentils in the cupboard so need to search out some recipes and find some time to make some soups etc.

  • In - nothing.
Out - some HM Muffins - still got decorator here so need cake for his elevenses.
Mr F had bought some choccie bits for the decorator's snacks but family came round and DGC tucked into them. It is my Birthday so they came to see me. They bought me some edible pressies - nice treats + jewellery + cardigan + ornament + craft goodies.

In: 6 portions of chicken casserole, three portions of swede and carrot mash. 4 bags of apple pieces. Just over 1lb blackberries picked yesterday.
  • Happy Belated Birthday Florenceem. Hope you enjoyed your day.

I've had a nightmare the last few days and eaten nothing out of the freezer or cupboard.

Hoping to be back on track today though, although I've no idea what to cook!
  • Happy bday flo

I've made a Caribbean soup for dinner, in it is a pack of braising steak from the freezer, some new potatoes, 2.carrots, a christophene, half a corn co , pumpkin, a onion and a spring onion. A tomato, along with some soup noodles and seasoning, I've just started on the decorating, can't wait for dinner, should be about 4 portions there.
