Not very exciting freezer movements today:-
Out:- 2 x soup portions, some HM vienetta. I think it was Kirri who posted a link to a recipe, Have tried it as I had all the ingredients in cupboard and freezer. Proof will be in the eating to night
In:- 5 portions of HM Hreezer mincemeat. This mincemeat doesn't store well in jars as there is too much apple in it, so it has to be frozen. Must make more as its comfort food for winter puddings.
2 portions of rice pudding, needed to use up ssome milk.

Edwardia:- I didn't realise Holland and Barrett sold such a wide variety of items

zafiro1984 that mincemeat sounds lovely, I can't eat that sort of stuff though because of diabetes :(

Kirri I cut back the herbs at least twice a year now so I get the young stuff before they develop viruses. I've got a load to do tomorrow.

Anyone got any idea what to do with a glut of figs please ? OH is feeling figged out lol. Have to exclude jam tho cos OH mixed concrete in my preserving pan :( He drilled holes in it and used it as a planter for herbs.

My H&B tiny but https://www.hollandbarrett.com has loads of stuff. Did well on last year's NY resolution to eat more fish/seafood but fallen over on this one's, to try more online food stores. :o

Kirri the houseplants came in from their garden staycation this week and OMG they've grown. Quite proud of myself as I managed not to give the kentia and areca palms sunburn this year ;) The peace lily had snails though eww

Resisting the temptation of that Viennetta so far. :p

    You can freeze them:
"Freezing figs alters their texture, but is another alternative if you have the freezer space and are short on time. Freeze whole ripe figs on parchment on a baking tray; be sure that they are not touching each other. After 4 hours, or when they are solid, pack them into freezer zipper-style bags. Remove the figs at least 4 hours before eating to thaw. Because freezing figs changes the texture, it’s best to serve them with sauce or blend into a smoothie. You can also quarter figs and pack them with sugar or sugar syrup into freezer-safe containers."

Or Fichi Sciroppati- figs in syrup sounds nice!

Assume you can make it in a normal saucepan rather than a preserving pan?

    Some nice HFW recipes here

Or Fig & Proscuttio Pizza from Paul Hollywood? Only uses a couple of figs though

And wash them all down with a glass of Le Figaro

Think you can dry figs too as I'd had them in a Graze box, didn't go a bundle on them as they had a slight crunchy-ness...
  • Out of freezer, neck of lamb fillet. Slow cooked with preserved lemons, tomatoes and olives, four helpings back into the freezer! One eaten today and one ready for tomorrow-delicious. I am emptying three freezers by Christmas,I hope that all I need to buy will be milk, fruit and small amounts of veg, one freezer contains only fruit and veg from the garden. It is so wasteful to keep buying food I think I have a bit of a yellow sticker problem! I must carefully avoid Waitrose.

"Drying figs is perhaps the most common way to preserve fresh figs. You can dry figs using a solar dryer, conventional oven, or food dehydrator. If you live in a desert climate[!!!], you can partially dry figs in the sun and finish them in an oven to pasteurize the figs after drying outdoors. Before drying, you may blanch figs in syrup to intensify their already sweet nature"

Also, what about Grilled Figs? Got a recipe for that if you want it:)

Thanks for the fig suggestions. I will print them off tomorrow. OH picked more today - we've not had this many before, shows what a decent summer can do.

Grilled figs sounds great, yes please JB- wish I could eat them, I just got a little bit of one. Lurve the smell. :D

Kirri it would be great if I could dry home-grown organic figs for Christmas ! Or even make some figgy mincemeat for OH's mince pies.

tootallulah the lamb dish sounds fantastic, I lurve preserved lemons and olives mmm. OH and I both into Middle Eastern and Greek food.

I was looking at a preserved lemon recipe earlier:

That pic ^ is the Farmaround Cow Nation organic cheddar, bit expensive but really nice taste and I don't eat huge amounts at a time so lasts me a while.
