Tesco misprice discussion area part 16

If they do change the policy it's simply a concession that they are losing too much money due to their own ineptitude. The fact is that they cannot get prices right and have realised that they have neither the capability/logistics/personnel/systems to reduce these losses.
Take for example one of the most obvious misprices around - stickers on DVD's. Come on now - it doesn't take a genius to work out that if there were no stickers on them (which are applied by an outside company) that there would not be differences between the sticker price and SEL price. So this bodes the question; why have stickers on them at all.... answer - it's a subtle advertising mechanism to firstly attract a consumer to the product and to then influence the buyer into thinking that they are getting a good deal. I don't think I've seen one DVD in Tesco that I haven't been able to get elsewhere more cheaply.
Everything that happens in a supermarket is geared towards subliminal messaging and making you believe you are getting a good deal, from the way that the shop is laid out to the positioning of goods on shelfs to the actual in your face advertising that is used, encouraging you to trust what they are telling you and spend your money there rather than elsewhere. Unfortunately for Tesco not all of their attempts are proving too successful.
At the end of the day it's the minority of people who are not taken in by the crap that are causing problems for Tesco. People with a bit more intelligence/balls/bottle to actually put them on the spot and question them over the deals they are offering, rather than being a sheep and being seduced by all the wonderful offers. And they really don't like it do they....0 -
I have heard that Tesco dont loose out on the r+r's. they just claim it back from the supplier so we are not hitting tesco we are hitting the supplier now I do feel guilty maybe, ok no I don't.0

It's just a guess but I'd imagine the amount of money they lose through R&Rs is more than offset by the amount they make from the rest of the revenue they get from the people R&Ring from simply shopping in the store and not elsewhere.
If so then the current policy is really a stroke of marketing genius - use the customers to get other customers into Tesco by spreading R&R info round the net. New customers flock to Tesco and decide to do their weekly shop while they're at it0 -
Any information regarding an incident that happened to my wife yesterday would be appreciated.
Called at our local tescos purchased some shopping and a dvd ( kung fu hustle) with a sel £17.97 and stickered at £15.97 so we purchased the item which was in a plastic sealed container which was removed at the till, after checking the receipt to find we had been overcharged my wife went to cs to ask about the overcharge they told her they would return the difference of £2.00 to which my wife said the blue board behind states refund the money and keep the item the cs advisor said it looks like the sticker has been tampered withand almost accusing my wife of changing the stickers my wife asked to speak to a manager and after waiting for about 5 minutes one arrived and said you can have the £2.00 difference thats it, my wife left the store in tears after this awful interrigation to which I took the receipt and headed off to the cs desk and asked who had accused my wife of tampering with the price tickets, the cs advisor stated that a duty manager was dealing with it so I asked to speak with her when she arrived some 5 minutes later she stated that I would only get the difference and I asked why she differed from company policy but she refused to budge at this point I asked for her name and head offices phone number to which she replied to her assistant "do a refund" we got the refund and kept the goods in the end, I think this duty manager feels she makes the rules and has total disregard for tescos company policy.

Absolutely dsgusting treatment from Tesco, your options are to complain to HO - you'll probably get an apology but you'll never know if they have a word with the duty manager in question. Or you could just keep r&ring and get your own back this way. Pretty much all of us have had a similar experience with rude staff, shouldn't happen but it does.
Don't let it get you down, best wishes.0 -

Simply not on. I really feel for people when this happens to them - please tell your wife to not take it personally - although it is hard when you are accused of something you didn't do. You'd have to be David Copperfield to tamper with a sticker inside a sealed case. How did the adviser justify their opinion that it had been tampered with?
You could ask them to review CCTV footage.
Also I'd phone Head Office and complain.0 -

The only problem with contacting HO is that if you then contact them in the future about a refused r&r they will still have these details on file. As I and some others know they view you differently when you contact them more than once over r&r. Not fair but thats how it seems to me.
Another option is to contact the store in question directly and ask to have an opportunity to call in and speak to THE manager not a duty manager (big difference) you may find they do not share the same views as some of their staff.0 -

They were unable to justify how the sticker had been tampered with as we both explained it was in a sealed box they just commented that they do not put the stickers on themselves an outside firm do this for them. I have just spoken to HO and reported the incident they said they would contact the store in question and a manager would contact me on my mobile with an explanation although I refused to give them my name and address.0 -

I was once overcharged on a game which was stickered at a lower price than it scanned. It was in a locked perspex box and I had walked immediately from the till to customer sevice. The assistant AND the manager told me that I must have bought a key and Tesco price stickers from Ebay and put the sticker there myself, as they knew for a fact that it had not come from their shelves!!!!
I told them to refund my whole shop and stick it where the sun don't shine!Finleypop x :hello:0 -

Yeah I agree 100% with that. Sometimes it's best to walk away from it and live to fight another day. This 'someone's tampered with it' thing, hinting that the purchaser has done it makes me angry though :mad:0
