Well having read this and the companion thread I thought I'd give it a go. It's a bit of a trek to our nearest big Tesco, but we needed groceries anyway.

SWMBO turns out to be really good at finding OOD SELs, so we tried for two:
    1. A Braun Tassimo, Yellow SEL £79.97 Exp 26/12/06, charged £99.97.
    2. A Samsung A503 digicam, White SEL £77.97, was about to be charged £77.97, so decided I didn't want it.

I got a full R&R on the Tassimo. CS tried to give me the discounted price but I "noticed" the sign behind her.

I'm fairly chuffed with the outcome of my first venture into the world of Tesco misprices.:j

Well done and welcome to you, and to your SWMBO as well.

    It becomes addictive......

  • Ive been looking for the tassimo EVERYWHERE! lol just before christmas there were loads of A4 signs and loads of the tassimos...now gone :( lucky u :)
    £900 towards next holiday...ta very much Mr T x
  • Thanks all. :) As a follow up question, I've done a search on ways of taking it back to get a refund and could use some advice on maximising my chances please.

Now, the CS lady wrote "Refunded" on our receipt, but below the credit card details there's a separate bit marked "This is your proof of purchase. Please keep safe.", with the name of the product and a barcode, followed by the "Sign up for clubcard" message and another barcode.

So, am I correct that the best option would be to cut out the bit in between the credit card and clubcard bits and take that to a Tesco saying it was an unwanted gift? If so what would I get, cash or vouchers?

Also can it be any Tesco store (eg our local Metro) or does it have to be a big one?

    Thanks.

Coincidentally I posted on this yesterday....it works a treat.......Ive done it a few times today, and its been accepted each time.

Your argument of course(if they do say something) is that it specifically says........"This is your proof of purchase. Please keep safe".........If they ask where the rest of the bill is, as you said, "it was a present"....or "he must have bought mutiple items and given the guarantee bits with the presents".

I always tell them "I am only the messenger" anyway.....then they cant ask too many questions.

Ive always had cash using this method....I was actually waiting until I got rid of all my stuff before posting on it.....but diid that today....so no worries.

In fact Ive had a brilliant day....got rid of the last my consoles and phones, dating back to September, all my "exchanged" goods.....and into the bargain(by accident).....realised that some £13 items I bought with coupons on bogof, middle of December have actually gone off bogof, so are getting double the original price back.....and as they were "sinex buys".....didnt pay for them in the first place.

    Thanks Mr T......you're a Star....

Even without a receipt, some stores will exchange, and in most cases you get a new receipt(on one the other day she utterly refused, but got a photocopy).....so you just return the exchanged goods with new receipt for cash.

I say "some stores will exchange"..because its up to the individual managers(so a manager told me).....Originally I visited 5 stores who said "no", then the next two were ok.

Wlfc1 and I have been doing this for months....

let us know how you get on chartreuse, Ive tried this on a small value item and th CSA would not have none of it syaing that I'd have to have all the receipt:(...I was going to swop the item and didn't want the money back.hope you have better luck.

Certainly works....but as i say, some stores are more obliging than others....but if you'd given the reason above, I cant see how they can refuse.

Thanks leadhead, I feel a lot more confident about doing this now. :T

That only leaves me wondering whether anybody has ever succeeded in getting a refund from a store that doesn't stock the type of item - eg taking electrical goods back to a "metro" or "express"?

Yikes! That's shocking, if you take it in the light of leadhead's advice. Did you try again with a different CSA or store?

Metro and Express stores generally only take back products they stock.

Iv read the other answers to this and to be honest i personally would probe and ask for all the reciept mainly because it has all the transaction details printed at the bottom of the original recipt which is needed when a refund is given but seeing as others have managed to get away with it you may be ok - I guess it depends which store you go to!

Yes..........I've even encountered problems between ordinary stores and Extras....always make sure they are likely to stock your product, otherwise its an unnecessary "life lost"
