I know what it is, I've seen it lots of times. The only way it will actually infect your computer is if you agree to let it do a "virus scan" or whatever nonsense it tries to con you into. Otherwise, if you just keep closing everything it pops up without letting it install anything, it'll go away after a few clicks.
What it does if you actually fall for it, I wouldn't know.
You're wrong. I had something similar in October last. I recognised it intantly as a fake, so I didn't interact, but by that time I'd probably 'invited it in' by some means; perhaps a download.
OTOH, a friend who is a far more techie person than me also got the same thing, and she swears she didn't download anything on the day in question.
We used resources at Malwarebytes and Bleeping Computer to get rid of it.
After that, I cancelled McAfee, who just wanted more money to assist me. Best thing computer-wise that I ever did! :rotfl:0 -

I didn't allow it to do anything. One minute I'm browsing on the Internet, the next minute, there's a new icon in the notification area, the security centre shield was red and I started getting pop-ups. I'm no techie expert but I know better than to click on anything that I haven't installed myself.'til the end of the line0 -

I admit I thought I'd be immune from spyware that relied on fake alerts etc, so when this one steamed in unannounced, I just laughed.....
I wasn't laughing when I discovered it was able to close all my anti malware programs as soon as I opened them, and then deny me further access to them!0 -
Scan for software vulnerabilities at Secunia - and if any are found - update the software & remove any older, insecure versions.

Since my version of Nortons 360 ceased working I keep getting pop ups for DVD's for films etc, I thought I had a seperate popup blocker, but now can't see it on my system, tho the pop ups may have coincided with me installing Vuze, but I deleted that as soon as I installed it, tho I seem to have a Vuze Remote toolbar I can't get rid of....eek! Help and advice please. TIA.0

Which browser(s) is Vuze Remote Toolbar in?How do I add a signature?0

Not Firefox..Tools..Add ons (or Downloads). Some of them are sods to remove. You might also want to have a look at the free Revo Uninstaller. Run it and see if that toolbar comes up in the window. I use it all the time without problems, the uninstaller that is. And make sure you download the free version
