    we havn't had a decent comparison between the Goodmans £60 unit and this one, can anyone compare please?
  • I've just seen this thread. I bought one of these Grundigs in December and been pretty happy about with it up until recently. The joystick button does sit to the left, but not something i'd return it for, but recently, it's been skipping to the next file half way through watching stuff or freezing completely, and the only way round that seems to be to let the battery die and recharge it.

    So anyways, yesterday i looked up the Grundig UK website and called the number on it. It took me to a recorded message saying that they had changed the number and could i call that.
    So i hung up, called the new number and was put on hold. I sat for 10 minutes till another message told me they were busy and i was cut off.
    When i called agaijn (at 2pm) i got a message saying they were shut, and then 15 minutes later i sat in another queue.

    Eventually, i got through to a customer advisor in an indian call centre, and the guy started to go through my problem with me. It was clear from the off he didn't know what a media player was. He kept asking me to reboot my pc and let it sit for 10 minutes.....what good that would do to the unconnected media player i have no idea, though i get the feeling he felt out his depth and wanted me off the call as soon as possible.
    We ran through a load of ticks in boxes type of questions before he started asking me to click options on the media player that weren't there.
    The conversation went for long periods like
    "If you could click on tools on your media player"
    "Mt media player doesn't have an option for tools, although it has one for system settings"
    "No, you need to click on tools"
    "It doesn't have a tools option"
    "Ok, Sir, now just look for the button that says tools"
    "Seriously, there isn't a button that says tools"

    ........etc etc

    He then told me i'd have to return it to the outlet i bought it from. Only problem is that i bought it off the grundig website and the grundig website tells you to call this number with any problems.

    After 40 minutes of torture, he put me on to his supervisor who started asking me to do the same things. The last straw was when she asked me to go into tools in WINDOWS media player and click on "Rip as MP3 any time a disk is inserted"......this was after me asking about 8 times to both advisors whether they knew i was talking about a Grundig Media Player and not Windows Media player on my pc.

    I eventually got them to agree for me to return it. Someone will apparantly call me within 24 to 48 working hours.....i don't hold out too much hope.

    Don't suppose anyone has a UK grundig help number? No way am i going through that again.

    After getting a tad annoyed at (what seemed) higher bit-rate AVI's stopping randomly I decided to rip it apart and see who actually makes it, and more importantly - Is there a decent firmware for it! :confused:

    For anyone that is interested, or indeed can read Korean - the device is actually a "Sorell SV-15"

    Google will guide you to the the manufacturers site, which mentions firmwares, but I could'nt seem to locate the links :mad:

    If anyone does manage to get the firmware, post the URL and I will certainly give it a try! ;)

    Here's the link to the firmware; http://www.sorell.or.kr/gzi/util_view.php?db_key=206&table=BBS_MAIN_UTILITYS&page=1&model=SV15&util2=&div=&cur_num=23

    SV-15 1[1].15K Beta.zip file is the most recent file.

    <attention>

    - make sure your battery enough.

    - back up the data before you upgrade.

    - initialize the system after you upgrade.

    <How to use>

    - Unzip the file, and operate sv-15_rom.bin file

    - version check (½Ã½ºÅÛ ¼³Á¤ > ½Ã½ºÅÛ Á¤º¸)

    - connect player and pc by usb cable

    - copy sv-15_rom.bin file to the 'system' folder

    - seperate usb cable, automatically firmware update will operate.

    - after update, automatically the player will shut down.

    - Power on the player, and you can check new version of player.

    - initialize the system and reboot your player.

    Any questions?

    If you can't download, let me know which file you need. I'll see if I can upload it somewhere.
