    You may well find that that particular camera is illegal to fit into a car in the UK.
    I'm pretty sure that it is illegal to have an in car DVD player or television where the screen is visible to the driver, and you might well find that this camera will be treated the same way.

    I would be suprised if that was the case, after all sat navs are legal and with the camera you would only use the screen to set it up, then fold it out of the way to get a better view.
  • This might cover it.
    Section b obviously covers sat navs, and section c may allow the use of the camera (depending on interpretation) or this might be meant for things like parking cameras.
    Even though the screen can be folded out of view, all the law states is that the driver can't be in a position where he can see the screen.
    Personally, I wouldn't risk it myself.
    Television sets

    109.—(1) No person shall drive, or cause or permit to be driven, a motor vehicle on a road, if the driver is in such a position as to be able to see, whether directly or by reflection, a television receiving apparatus or other cinematographic apparatus used to display anything other than information—

    (a) about the state of the vehicle or its equipment;

    (b) about the location of the vehicle and the road on which it is located;

    (c) to assist the driver to see the road adjacent to the vehicle; or

    (d) to assist the driver to reach his destination.

    (2) In this regulation “television receiving apparatus” means any cathode ray tube carried on a vehicle and on which there can be displayed an image derived from a television broadcast, a recording or a camera or computer.

    Possibly, but as you mentioned earlier, the camera in question looks like it might break before the problem of its legality arose.

    this to me says anything that can display a recording from "derived" as long as you are not replaying any of the recording you are ok to record.

    I use my camera phone, its solid state (doesnt go fussy when you hit it) and I know it will record.
