    Update

Phoned vodafone talked to Scottish woman who cut me off, phoned again talked to Martin, this time we did a roaming diagnostic, no use, so sent me text details of more diagnostics, did these of turning phone on sim free, leave it off for 10 mins, turn on, inset sim - no difference still on 1 bar signal, said he put notes on my account.

Phoned again, talked to a Scottish woman, said there was 2 solutions, change phone or cancel contract, i opted to change the phone she said a Manager will call me within 24 hours provided he can get through.

If no contact i will cancel the contract.

As i was promised a call back from a manager to get this problem sorted out with the phone i have, this never happened, i am a little tired of talking to customer services i am getting nowhere, being given wrong info and suggestions of keeping this phone and carry on a contract for 2 years.

Does anyone know how to cancel a contract on the basis of a phone that is not fit for use? Do i just cancel my direct debits and send the phone back?

PLEASE don't tell me to call customer services here i have had enough of that stuff, i could do with a address to send the phone to along with its sim card, i will be going into the bank tomorrow and cancelling the direct debit payments.

    Thanks.

Do that and your current problems will be as nothing to what will follow.

I sympathise - Vodafone are the pits - but you are well advised NOT to take that course of action.

I agree; speaking with Vodafone is a COMPLETE waste of time and merely makes things worse. The web relations team do actually try to sort things out - even though they shouldn't have to.

Cancel the direct debit and I'm afraid you're anger and predicament will immediately spread to all other organisations where any form of credit is involved for many years to come (apart from the fact that you will then go into default and wrack up hundreds of pounds in additional costs).

Have you not asked this question already?
    And the answer was
Yes, you can just cancel the DD and just send the phone.
No, you cannot just cancel the contract this way.

Also, no need to go to your bank. You can cancel the DD online.

So am I. Unless I have missed something or unless Grumbler is being sarcastic, this is utter rubbish.

You HAVE to sort things out and that is either via their CS, the rep on here or via their chief exec's office.

You can NOT just unilaterally decide to send the phone back and stop the contract. You will be blacklisted, have your Credit Record trashed and debt collectors will pursue you.

You are in a contract for airtime that is not dependant upon the handset working. Repairs, warranty claims or replacement for the handset are covered by Voda's t&c and you need to realise that they are separate from the airtime contract.

Sorry that it isn't simpler, but you are one of thousands who have trod this path on this forum and most get things resolved, but it has to be in conjunction with the network.

I am not being sarcastic, but I don't see any point in starting the new thread after this recent one: Vodafone contract problem, really need legal rights

The OP was explained about the problems related to cancelling the DD, but he seemed to not care much about this. To make his life easier I explained that this could be done online.

He was told many times that he could not cancel the airtime contract, but he preferred to ignore this and asked for the address to send the phone back. I gave him the address.

Also, the problem was with the indoor signal. As I said in the above thread IMO a handset couldn't be deemed faulty only because indors it worked worse than some other handset.

The only reason for complaining to, say, the head office I see is the stupid and helpless CS that promises to call back, to replace the phone etc. and never keeps the promises.
