Driving while distracted causes accidents and that includes listening to the nagging wife.

OK, it was a bit off topic. But the point I was trying to make is that statistics can be made to prove anything you want, maybe even that car stereos are dangerous. As they say, "Lies, damned lies and statistics".

How did it ever become a law??

To me it is complete stupidity to use lights during daytime!

They are ok in Scandinavian countries as they have short days during winter but why in whole of Europe??

first answer this, why do motorbikes have headlamps on in the day? and you will find the answer;)

And so this thread loops back to the beginning.

Motorbikes do it in order to stand out a bit from cars because so many car drivers seem to be incapable of seeing anything smaller than a car. If car drivers start doing this as well then "SMIDSY" motorbike accidents are likely to increase, or the bikers will have to start wearing flashing yellow beacons on their helmets or something.

This has been a major concern of the various motorcycle organisations ( and cyclists too) as to how it will impact on motorcycle and cycle safety. Personally, if you can't see a one ton motor car in normal daylight hours, in good visibility, then you have to wonder if you are properly equipped to drive.

I still fail to see how that is an issue; a light is a light. If you see a light coming towards you, why would it matter if it was motorcycle or a car?
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

What will be more visible, the motorcycle with one headlight illuminated or the car with two? What is more likely to be picked out by other road users?

Don't forget that the light on the bike will just be mistaken for the lights of the car behind, especially at dusk when vehicle lights are particularly dazzling.

That makes no sense either. If I see a light coming towards me, I take more notice of what's coming towards me.

Congratulations, you are (probably) not one of the drivers that motorcyclists are complaining about! although I'm not really talking about a single vehicle approaching, I'm talking more about moderate and heavy traffic.

The problem is things that become commonplace blend into the background. People see a sea of lights and a queue of cars, those lights no longer get processed as individual lights attached to individual cars, its just.. line of lights.. line of cars. "Oooh, that car is leaving a bigger gap than the rest Imma go pull out in front of it." *crunch* "Where did that idiot biker come from!"

It doesn't seem to be a problem in Sweden.
