What research has been carried out to correlate having DRLs and their record on road traffic collisions?

It seems to depend on whether the research was carried out by the pro-DRL or anti-DRL lobby.

Personally, I've always wondered how many accidents happen whilst the driver involved was listening to the radio or CD player. I suspect it would be quite a high percentage. But, would this statistic mean that ICE is dangerous? Of course, not.

Dave101t was implying (eight months ago, I might add) that the DRLs have been the cause of Poland apparently having the worst road stats in the EU. I then asked what research has been done into this assumption.

What has that go to do with car stereos?

That means nothing in itself. You would need to compare the stats before and after the introduction of DRLs in Poland for that statement to have any relevance in this discussion.

They may just be really bad drivers.

DRLs have always appeared to me to be for the truly feeble of mind. However, as we are getting a very freaky piece of weather at the moment, very dull and overcast with some falling snow, the roads seem to be full to bursting point with people who would benefit from them.
I would say 75% of the traffic is driving around without as much as a side light on and they are practically invisible at the moment. I suppose as its lunchtime they think it is too early to flick the lights on.

    Where does one start?

First of all, what weather would you expect in February? It is winter-time and it snowed last week, hardly "freaky."

If DRLs are for feeble-minded, why would you then complain that no one uses them?

I think his point is about having lights come on all the time, even in the summer, to compensate for people who can't be bothered to turn them on for the 2-3 months of the year where you might actually need them on during the day.

But they are not there to benefit them, they are there to benefit other road users.

I would have thought the green nutters would have complained about DRLs .They consume power and increase the Co2 emissions causing the earth to fall out of orbit or whatever.

They consume a good deal less power than side lights. The LEDs are far more efficient power users.

Driving while distracted causes accidents and that includes listening to the nagging wife.
