in what way misrepresenting. And how is it being friendly to new people making sarcastic remarks among yourselves. I am not trying to give people advice, only sharing my own experiences of buying and selling on ebay, You really should see yourselves as a new person sees you and Im afraid that isnt friendly

Maybe you should re-read the start of this thread, as you are so far off the mark it's untrue.
A person coming onto a thread & being downright rude & sarcastic, isn't exactly friendly.
Every now and again someone new comes on who like you seems to want an argument over everything.
You may find it amusing but it's really rather tedious & totally unhelpful to people who need advice.

and what is unreasonable about saying if you did not put so much pressure on buyers they wouldnt feel as if they have to lie. I BUY and SELL I can see this from both sides as I am sure you can. I clearly mark my details most people read this, some dont. Some have reasonable expectations, some dont. Another poster says she worries if she doesnt get her stuff posted the same day. I think it is ridiculous that anyone should feel so stressed out by this. I have friends for whom ebay is quite an important part of their family income. One in particular cannot work herself because one of her children is disabled. So excuse me if people flippantly saying I am going to mark people down on their stars, and give them negs infuriates me. Be aware that you are toying with some peoples livelihoods and I am sorry but you sound like a lot of spoiled brats.

I think that you meant to say sellers.
The majority of people on here are sellers more so than buyers.

Are you actually able to back up your posts with examples of these impatient unreasonable buyers in this thread? It seems as though you have come on here to defend dishonesty among sellers.

Since when has lying to seller has become acceptable, and giving low stars for late postage unreasonable?
I post almost every day, and mark as despatched when posted, not a week before I actually go to the PO...

Many people rely on ebay for income, and I'm sure they know that if they want to keep afloat they need to post fast, and if they are caught lying about posting their stars will get hit. Can't see what's so controversial about that...

Please read what I actually posted, it would help.

I would not mark down a seller who posted when they said they would, even if my item arrived late. However I would mark down a seller who states one despatch time (probably to attract buyers) and then posts a week after that stated time. When that seller is asked about despatch (as the estimated delivery time has passed) a totally false date of despatch is given and even once that date of despatch is proved to be wrong they insist they did send it a week before.

So, you would give that seller a 5* for all areas then and a glowing positive? Surely that is unfair to the next buyers that come along, stars and feedback are not a punishment they are a guide to buyers. Therefore if i have a seller who maipulates their despatch time I would want to warn future buyers.

Yup, agreed. As more of a buyer than a seller, I find it ridiculous that some people on here defend sharp practices like that. I can agree buyers can be impatient, but when you've paid for something, you have a certain right to reasonable service, and furthermore, to a guide to someone which tells you what their service is like. We're the ones paying you. We have certain rights - some enshrined in law - that you have to adhere to. I'm sorry, you can't make buyers wait, or lie to them.

I have no sympathy for scammers on both side of the arrangement, but some eBay sellers think that their buyers are just there to be used as milk cows. It's like serving dinner in the saucepans you cooked it in - yes, you get fed, but not even at home do I do do that. If you can't post a lot, time your auctions to coincide with when you can post, or give up for the time being - I'm sure you have worked out arrangements that suit you, having been selling on eBay for 10 years as you claim, but having been using the site for nearly nine years now, and for seven as a seller, I've also worked out what people want, and keeping within the spirit of that is better than trying to manipulate or "work-to-rule". The people with the top ratings earned them. If your ratings are suffering, then you need to look to your own practices. If you're stuck 28 miles from a PO or whatever, perhaps it's time to think about another occupation. Mine have never dropped below average, though I don't sell enough to have a more accurate picture.

I don't know whether you've come here to moan about something; it might be better to moan about it, clear it out of your system and then gradually learn about the forum. People do argue here, and there are some of us who take it a lot more seriously than others (it's money at stake, after all) but you'd find us more accommodating if you relaxed a bit.

okay then how about ebay being a more level playing field. SELLERS are not allowed to give other sellers an indication of what buyers are like. Not allowed to mark down on stars the people who mess you around by making you wait until they are ready to pay. Before you all pounce I know you can open npb but not everyone wants to have to open a case every five minutes. In fact there are many downright awkward buyers out there and you should be able to at least comment that this was not a good experience. I agree that it should reflect service in the case of a seller. However how do we warn others about unreasonable or dodgy buyers as you are all so concerned about the validity of ebay as a marketplace, or are you just concerned about your own rights as a buyer. Only genuine replies to this query please,

Maybe you should ask for replies that agree with your opinion, rathat than genuine ones...

You don't seem to understand that most posters on this board are sellers, not buyers, and many are business sellers.
The reason why many sellers are happy with the current level of buyer protection are very simple, they give buyers the confidence to give their hard-earned cash to a total stranger.
Evidence of that is the fact that ebid has never taken off properly exactly because of that, they don't offer much buyer protection and buyers stay away.

I'm not interested in leaving feedback/stars for buyers, I'm more interested in making money, and the current buyers protection help me make more money.

At least on ebay if we have issues with a buyer we can block them, and can automatically block buyers with two or more strikes, so I am not unduly worried as I think overall the percentage of poor buyers is very small.

Yes, I totally agree, I've had very few bad experiences, most buyers are great.
Unfortunately the problems I've had were due to people not bothering contacting me before leaving bad stars/fb, but I think that's because of bad experiences with other sellers, so they don't want to waste time or have an argument. When I contact them to try and resolve they were so grateful, even those who seemed to have a bad attitude.
