Holiday cottage rental disaster

Kit Kat eh? I've usually just gone for simple chocolate, but I would say that those plastic snap traps are much better than the 'little nipper' type - gets the little bs every time.
Mice piddling everywhere (as they do) is obviously not welcome in a kitchen but it wasn't going to be your forever home OP so many wouldn't view it as a "disaster". Most reserve that description for a military coup, illness requiring hospitalisation etc
If the holiday let owners were happy to take your pet in to the property for a week perhaps you could have put up with theirs0 -
I too would have been upset. I would say your chances with the agent are nil as they usually say they are only agents so would focus on owner. Was the property rated by Tourist board? It is a bit late now but if the property was infested prior to stay and owner aware then think world of difference to a mouse straying in as can happen in the country. Although not as common as some posters suggest in my experience!

No the property wasnt rated by the tourist board, it was a new property on the website, so we had expected high standards as it would have recently been inspected, good luck to future inhabitants as the may move from the kitchen to the bedroom! Nice!0 -
There seems to be quite a lot of posts from people who have mastered the perfect trap food, so what do you leave on your worktops to encourage vermin? And by the way if im perceived as a townie, i actually live on a farm and we keep the vermin outdoors! The cottage owner im sure will keep my weeks rent as they will need this week to attempt to catch the vermin, or maybe not??0

I would do a quick google and see if another company offered it previously as then ring up and see if you can find out sneakily why they no longer do so as may strengthen your case. I might also be tempted to get in touch with local environmental health as well so they can investigate to avoid a recurrence.

PS I would never trust an agency's inspection!0 -

Well usually we don't leave food out where mice can get to it, especially in a place that may have been empty for a while.
Oh and 'townie' is really a description of a state of mind and has very little to do with where you actually live.0 -
I do sympathise with you I am sure it wasn't pleasant if you don't like them.
Unless you give them chance to resolve it firs, Before terminating, I do think you have weakened your chances of success.
Have rented loads of place and only been let down by two. One was greedy landlords and the other fleas but we did book a dog friendly property.
I have stayed in one where we had mice in the walls, that was interesting in the night.
And another one where we had to get water out of stream as the water pump system failed.
But a PP said it all part of the experience. If it was just like home there wouldn't be any point in going away."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

In response to every negative comment, the cottage had been inhabitated two nights before we arrived, yes I brought my dog, they accomodated my dog but that didnt mean I had to feed their vermin in return. Yes if it was too like home it wouldnt be an experience but pee and poo on worktoos isnt really advised under health an hygiene rules, yes I could have listned to them running up and down walls, just not On worktops. I can ferry water from streams in a bucket. I didnt expect the cottage owner to bend over backwards to fix my problem but as i was leaving her property it was leaving it open to re-rent afterall the mice must be vacating by friday night, as itavailable to the public from saturday on the web page!0

Your best bet would have been to just get on with your holiday - and simply not eat at the cottage .... at least that way you'd have had a holiday.0

Well it would take you to be there, obviously vermin arent as dirty and disgusting as I originally thought. It was a self catering holiday, hence we brought our own food for the week!0
