OK a nice quick and easy one is just say you chose the wrong hardwear colour so you'll let your other half pick the bag for herself. So for example if you pick a bag with gold hardwear say she prefers silver etc.
edit
does the brief specify womens bag? if not the larger cross body bags are unisex and they sell briefcases. You could say you wanted to use it for netbook / work files etc but they didn't fit.0 -

Specifies a particular handbag, e.g. has to be purple, made from rat's fur, with 6 pockets and must have 8 studs on the front etc. I'm sure some guys like to walk around with ladies bags, but it's not my cup of tea.0 -
Well not unless there is a huge fee involved0 -

Could I ask those who have done the GR checkout jobs some advice please. I'm a bit confused whether I should take the checklist with me? The way I read the brief you did but then it's not exactly covert is it! I'm planning on going at what I think will be a quiet time (famous last words!). Cheers:)0

I'm wel jel. I've seen the one you have and I want one too, the one with the red rat's fur. LOL. Normally I am happy with a Tesco carrier bag.:p

I have only done 1 of these, and I walked around with it in my hands. I think 1 cashier looked at me like I needed help, but I just carried on doing my thing. I think if they ask, you tell them what you are doing. HTH. I tend to do these first thing in the morning after the acceptable time.0 -

I use my phone. First time I took the list with me and it was a nightmare. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Was that from trying to fill the paperwork in or getting hassle from staff? It would take me ages inputting on my phone TBH, I did consider using a digital dictaphone and just look like a nutter talking to myself.0

Oh sweetie, it's a lot scarier than it sounds. All the checkouts have a number on a pillar/pole next to them. If you do it first thing in the morning, most are closed anyway. Put a confident face on and just walk across ticking boxes. Simples.0 -

Take the list and a clipboard. Walk the checkouts and do the count, if you get challenge it does not matter they let you get on with it as they know what it's about. I have done loads of these and only been challenged twice, there is a question on it in the report and the brief tells you what to say if you get challenged. All in they take 5 minutes to do0
