Make sure you prompt them to do the MATb1 form or they will forget - it took me ages to get mine:mad:

I think they have to go by the due date unless you are working until you pop so to speak - not 100% on this though x

Well, i am kinda hoping to be "officially" working till i pop! But seeing as my bosses have said i can work at home for the whole of decemeber, and i would be off on paid leave over christmas anyway, i'm fairly comfortable with an extra 3 days!

Hello Ladies! I hope you don't mind me popping in, I just thought that this information may be of help to some of you. I noticed someone mention baby bargains in Tesco, I was lucky enough to pick up a Tomy Digital monitor TD300 RRP £55 for £13 today, they also had the Digital Plus TD350 for £19 but this is just a spare to go to my mums. None of these were marked at the discounted price so well worth getting them price checked. I hope this may be of help to anyone needing a monitor. The Fisher Price Precious Planet range seems to be reduced heavily but there was none in my store. Good luck with all your pregnancies.
  • Thought the following might be useful for some people.

Just been on Close slings website to look at product info about their slings, and I saw council nappy packs. Basically, Essex and Gloucester residents can try the reusable nappies at a very small cost.
The Gloucester packs need a voucher but it might be worth asking about them if you live there, the Essex ones just need to confirm the postcode.

I'd have probably tried them if I lived there :)
  • Kira - its probably quite unlikely that your midwife would change the dates, however Im pretty sure thenlaw has changed on maternity leave starting on a Sunday, our policy at work said it had to be a Sunday in line with the law but on direct.gov its changed, but the policy was never revised. You should speak to HR and ask if you definitely need to start it on a Sunday.

Once again Im up at silly o clock, laid in bed for a couple of hours but am too uncomfortable. It appears as well as a huge baby, displacing hip and SPD i now have a hernia. Marvelous. I don't think its a very bad one but the community MW said to ask at hosp tomorrow.

Really can't decide whether to get induced ASAP or whether to carry on trying to go naturally to have a water birth. Any thoughts? From speaking to the consultant before and the MW yesterday, they'd go along with my choice.

Also, for anyone that needs a chuckle. I got stuck in the bath, well no so much stuck as wedged! I was sat at the tap end washing my face with water from the tap and I had my legs crossed. Went to move and couldn't. Fortunately DH was downstairs and came to my rescue! He managed not to laugh until he had unwedged me and the water that was held behind me went rushing toward the plug!

  • is anyone else at the stage where they are totally fed up being pregnant and just want baby to be here already? i seriously cant wait for december and am giving evil glares to all those on the list before me :rotfl:

i swear OH is getting the snip and if he wont have it done then he is not allowed near me till ive been sterilised either on the nhs or privately as i really cant go through this again.

This is my 1st and only pregnancy, and as much as I am so looking forward to having a baby, I have been saying this since I was about 9 weeks pg and had morning sickness. Since then things have got progressively harder. I really don't know how women do this time and time again  I'm looking forward to feeling like me again, and being able to get off the sofa or out of bed without having to manouvre like a ten tonne truck, being able to reach my legs to shave them, oh and a chilled glass of white wine :D Roll on December

Random question - anyone else had bum cramp? Wake up with it every morning and it's doing me head in!

Me!! I get it most days and it bliddy hurts :o

I practically had to beg for mine, in the end I said work were badgering me for it!

Kira you should be able to start your maternity on whichever date suits you, but if you have the baby early your maternity will kick in from the day the baby is born. I would check with your employer whether you will get your booked holidays back if you go early.

    Morning all.

Kira, I'm officially starting my maternity a week before due date, and using annual leave before then... I think you can work as close as you want?

I've given my work my MatB1, but they haven't replied and it's now a month and a half- emails are ignored, it's only when I push over the phone I get 'We're looking into sending you a letter.' My work have a history of being bad on the pay side, so I'm worried that Mat pay will become an issue unless I push for it to be sorted now.

Thanks Redhead. I live in Essex, so will be signing up to this. Had planned on trying reusables anyway... I get mixed responses when I tell people this (same as when I mention we're doing hypnobirthing), so I've been keeping it on the downlow to an extent.

Hayley - a waterbirth is my dream birth - really hoping I can have one. I'm so so so impatient but think if I were you I'd wait. For me, the thought of being strapped to a bed, in a hospital, is pretty much my worst case scenario. Try not to lose sight of what you originally wanted hun - though perhaps easy for me to say at 27 weeks.....

Hey bump buddy :) Sorry to hear you're not enjoying being preggers. I don't mind it actually, but I reckon that's because I've had a move from Aus-UK to contend with half way through so I've been kind of distracted I guess! I'm deffo with you on the wine though..

Ladies, I'm doubting my names. Well, more the boy names actually, I find them so hard. We've had Barnaby for a boy from very early on but now I'm wondering if it is just silly. I also love Spike and Woody, Woody perhaps a little bit more than Barnaby, but I wonder whether I'm setting the child up for a lifetime of abuse / not being taken seriously. OH's surname is pretty common, so I kind of think we could get away with a slightly more unusual first name. Girls names aren't such a problem, we've got tons and I love them all... My friend who had her baby on Sunday has chosen a gorge name for her little boy and its making me feel like I just can't find anything that would even come close.......
  • Morning All,

Im still here :)Labour vibes to all the boldies!!!!

Have been awake every 2 hours in the night with cramps and peeing for Britain, have been able to sleep through most of the cramps but every 2 hours there has been a big one thats woken me up, so far have had some more milder pains while i have been awake (for want of a better term) so am hoping that Elvis might be deciding to make an appearance, although i have had some pains before and nothing has happened.

Am getting slightly annoyed with OH who keeps grinning at me every time i say ow - he is so excited which is lovely but when i was telling him how i had been awake every 2 hours he had the biggest grin, could have slapped him lol

Hope everyone suffering has a good day, im off to play in the kitchen to make a Quiche just in case :)

    Puzzled
  • Morning all,

Hayley - if the water birth is something that you really want and you'll be upset and hugely disappointed if you don't get it then hang on in there. If its not, then I'd go for the induction. Personally I'd go for the induction, but I don't want a water birth (can't have one locally anyway) and I'm in that much pain I'd be going private if I could afford it, so my view is probably very biased! Don't worry too much about the hernia, I've got one too and they aren't concerned about it affecting anything - but do make sure they're aware of it :)

Blue - I haven't got a clue what this baby is going to be called. We talked about names once when we found out he's a he, couldn't agree on anything and its never been mentioned again! I figure we'll know once he's here. If not DH might get his way and the poor thing will be called Batman.

Lirin - I'm having problems with work over mat pay too. I'm not entitled to SMP but boss is point blank refusing to give me the form I need to claim MA until my SSP ends. Which was last Monday. *Sigh*

I have a question about men. Well several actually. Why can't they clean the bath? And why can't they buy more milk when they use it up? Or replace the loo roll? Or the bin bag?

Practically had to beg DH to take DS to school this morning so I could try to catch up on sleep. Really wish I hadn't bothered because now we have no milk (= no coffee or breakfast for me), no loo roll (bought in bulk and stored in the loft where I can't get) and no bin bag in the bin. Not to mention the tide mark in the bath. I can't pick my feet up to walk but I still managed to clean the bath when I got out yesterday! ARGH!!! Not to mention he's taken the big car, leaving me the little car which I can't drive because a) I can't get in/out of it b) has no power steering and c) has no diesel in. *Even bigger sigh*... thinking today is going to be a carp day... its also raining...

Sorry for the rant, actually really didn't mean to!

Anyway, hope aches and pains are bearable today and labour vibes to all the boldies and anyone else who wants them :)
