Abby it won't be long now for you, my cousin was due 11 days ago and her baby arrived this morning and he's not a big 'un. Won't be long at all :D

Oh Mancbird I'm so sorry to hear you are still so unwell :( I've also been off sick and on SSP only since 9 weeks pregnant and tbh its been a financial nightmare but we've gotten used to it now and we've adjusted accordingly - which is just as well because when I officially start maternity leave I'll be on maternity allowance because I'm not entitled to SMP. It certainly doesn't sound like you're well enough to go back. Is there a big difference between the amount you're paid now and the amount you would be paid on maternity leave? The main reason I've stayed on the sick rather than go onto maternity leave is so I get the maximum amount of time with baby when he arrives because financially it makes very little difference to us xx

Thanks Winnie. Sorry to hear you're having a tough time of it too :( xxx

Financially, at the moment I'm losing approx £500 a month if I was on long term sick. However because of the financial situation and because I've found work haven't been entirely understanding about the hyperemesis (they think I just have normal morning sickness and seem to think I am making a fuss about nothing...) I have been in and out of work all through my pregnancy, which I think is probably worse as it's making me ill keep going back (I have a 30 mile commute and am being sick in the office) and probably isn't ideal from their point of view either (no continuity) :( Most months my wages have been down by approx £250.

If I'm off for another 3 days I will drop down to ssp :( so will then be looking at being £700 a month worse off :( if I start my maternity I would get 12 weeks at 100% of my salary then the remaining 29 weeks at smp. So probably a big difference....

Also, does anyone know what should happen with my holidays? I have 8 or 9 days left for 2011 (up to December 2011). Should I definitely take these before I go off as work don't seem to be able to give me a definitive answer...

mancbird i know with my work if you are off sick within the 4 weeks before you are due maternity leave then they can make you tak eit early. also if your on tax credits have you told them about your drop in wages, dont forget when your on maternity you can disregard the first £100 as well

Mancbird - I thought if you were of sick with a pregnancy relayed illness after a certain point then your employer can automatically start maternity leave. Regardless of sickness, You can ask to change the start date at any time and are supposed to give 28 days notice but it can be less if your employer agrees. Mrsspendalot had a similar situation a few months ago if I remember right. In the first instance I would phone or email your HR dept. I guess it'd make no difference to them whether they pay you sick pay or mat pay.

Hi everyone, i posted on the 12-24 as well yesterday, but thought maybe one of you ladies over here might have a view (esp the ones with previous experience of little boys scans!)
So, i posted on 12-24 at the weekend that bean hadnt been very co-operative during the scan when we wanted see what team we were on. I transfered the other pics to the pc last night, which meant i could get the images a bit bigger. When i zoomed in on one, i suddenly saw something that i thought might just be little boy bits, but dont know if its just me! I know the piccy is a bit wibbly and bumpy, but thought i would see what any of you ladies made of it! I've drawn a little box around the area where i think i see something.... Any thoughts?
