Ok I've been panicing over my hospital bag for weeks now, but I'm buying bits & pieces I need slowly although they're all still in carriers etc as I'm still living at my parents but NOW I'm panicing over baby clothes - I don't have a flippin' clue what I need - I'm looking at 'newborn sets' and thinking ok, I want the all-in-ones, mittens & hat but what the hell do I do with a vest?! What do I put with it. I guess it's hard to imagine it possibly being cold when I give birth seeing as it's so warm now!0

Baby would tend to wear: Nappy + vest + sleepsuit + mittens + hat. If it is cold you would add a cardigan and or blanket.
I think the general rule of thumb is for baby to always wear one more layer of clothing than you are wearing so basically vests would usually be worn under all outfits.
Does that help at all?
I have a limited number of things in newborn (about 6/7 of each thing I think) as a lot of people have said baby won't fit into them for long but then I have approximately 25 vests in 0-3 months, 20 sleepsuits 0-3 months, 8/9 hats, about 10 pairs of mittens (but some of the sleepsuits have built in mittens already)
I then have the same number of vests and sleepsuits in 3-6 months. Haven't bought many "outfits" at all as most people have said they are a bit of a waste as it's easier to dress baby in sleepsuits for the first couple of months & Im sure we'll have some outfits bought as pressies.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -
Pigpen- go for a swim in your local pool and count that as a shower!
My chest is hurting from coughing- DH made me take medicine at 3am last night, and was that asleep he spilt quite a bit over me- was nice thought though. I sound like I have a 60-a-day habit, which is not nice in pregnancy.... I smoked lightly before pregnancy but wouldn't touch them now.
Don't know what anyone else feels like either, but my ankle swells up occasionally, my back is still sore, and my hips have gravitated somewhere a foot either side of my body for the last month- so much for pregnancy being 'helped' by being fit and reasonably in shape! I could add so much more, each day feels like I'm running my own personal lottery for which body part's going to be sore each day- I'll place a fiver on my wrist for Friday!0 -
Did anyone see the 16lb 1oz baby born to a Diabetic mum in the US on tv last night. :eek:I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

I probably don't necessarily need that amount of sleepsuits and vests but I've had a lot given to me by my sister and I don't want to have to worry about washing things immediately - especially as babies can possibly go through 3/4 outfits a day if there are any poo explosions!
eBay is fab for baby bundles & the Next sale starts on Saturday (not that Im tempting you or anything :rotfl:):happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -
Lol, thanks Apricot - will take a look at both
Do bodysuits work in the same way as vests but just button underneath the bum? God, I know nothing - why am I having a baby?!

Um when you say bodysuits do you mean like this? http://www.babies-born.co.uk/BabiesBodysuits.html - I class those as vests too.
Don't stress I am the eldest child and my sister had a baby last year so I have had plenty of people to learn from!:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -
Yes those are the ones - thanks
Trouble is I don't have anyone to learn from
Guess I'll get the hang eventually! :rotfl:

I like the sleepsuits from sainsbury's, they come in packs of three for £7.50 and they quite often have 25% off events. They have some very pretty girls ones, and they wash really well. I've kept most of Squeaks at least until the 20wk scan so we know wether we need them again or not. Sleepsuits button all the way through the body and down the legs, vests button under the nappy.
I didn't buy anything in newborn for Squeak since DD1 was 10lb and huge, but then ended up with an induction at 37wks and she was only 7lb 8 so OH got her some at the time. She was born on payday which was fortunate reallythough OH went out for some babygros and came to the hospital with lots of lovely things for her, he had been to loads of places, think he got a bit excited, and he did have time on his hands since we were in 4 days after she was born.
Skint_Catt, if you are really worried you can get a doll to practise on, doesn't have to be a massively expensive one, or borrow one if you know any little girlsMum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o
