My letter sent a user ID. Perhaps you didn't tell them you wanted to manage the account online?

My standing order is due out on 24 June. Since the account has been opened I have made six payments by Fast Transfer, all have been accepted.

I also got my username through yesterday and can view the account online etc. I could see my initial DD deposit showing as a pending transaction. The site did also let me choose an additional DD deposit on 04/07, so hopefully this will be honored too.

I just called up Newcastle BS to confim that my DD on 04/07 would meet the deadline of 05/07. The lady said that even though a DD leaves your current account on the specified day and will show in your Newcastle account on the same day, the funds don't actually clear for 2 - 3 days. So she warned that a DD to leave my account on 04/07 may not clear in time.

So I guess for those of you interested, realistically the be safe the last date for either a DD or BACS transfer to leave your current account is going to be Friday 01/07.

I've had the welcome letter with my account number but nothing re a username/viewing on line. Is anyone else still waiting for this?

It's probably worth calling up to check as most people seem to have had their logon details on their welcom letter. On the letter where it confirms the name of the account that's been opened, does it say 'OL' on the end?

I know from past experiance, Newcastle onced opened a bond for my Mum and gave her the normal version of the account rather than the on-line version.

I'm sure they'll sort you out if you give them a call. The staff seem friendly and knowledgeable which makes a refreshing change :-)

Martinpe and hgt - thanks. I'll have to give CS a call tomorrow. There is no OL on the letter.

Just to let people know that it is possible to make payments into the Newcastle account fine from more than one account as I have now had all my payments made so far cleared and showing in the Newcastle account.

I have made them from 2 different current accounts using BACS, one of which was the nominated account I setup during application but you don't have to use that one if you don't want to.

For the first 2 days I used the application number for the reference when making the BACS payment and yesterday used the account number (which can be seen when you log into the Newcastle Account) I now have as the reference but still used the Account Number and Sort Code provided in the welcome email. I confirmed this was the correct thing to do prior to making the transfer.

One final thing is that although when I make the payments they say they will be in the account within 2 hours they don't show until about mid day the following the day as cleared into the Newcastle Account.

Hope that helps people looking to transfer money in.

Phone call made and CS very helpful indeed. The hold up in my receiving log in details is because I had to send in identification ID.

Newcastle BS use Barclays to clear their funds so that's why a payment takes a little longer to arrive than you may expect, as the money goes to Barclays first, then on to the Newcastle.

Does anyone know anymore about giving notice to withdraw, how do you do it? What is this about confirming nearer the time how is that done?

What are peoples intentions I think mine is to wait until the first B of E interest rate rise but Im not sure wheher that is a good strategy. Anyone given notice yet?

I would suggest you phone them up - the customer service team has been really good when I have rang them so probably best to speak to them direct, and then of course let us all know :)

My plan is to hold on to it for some time would have thought it will be at least a year, will be quite some time until it becomes my lowest paying account. Currently lowest I have is at 3.05% with a 30 day notice account with Coventry BS.
