Good work UK1, looks like the info I was given and posted was correct on all counts and at least now you know that it is possible to get Bonds that allow you to make more than just the initial deposit.

Game set and match to afmfifgh, and thanks very much for trying to help, I appreciate your efforts.

Thanks, but you obviously still do not get it.

The opinion you provided wasn't facts they were speculation. You also stated that most bonds work in this way. This was also incorrect.

People making important decisions based on unsubstantiated and unchecked speculation sourced from forums is dangerous and that was my point to you.

My note was based on facts supplied by Newcastle.

Think you might not have read what I wrote correctly originally then. As what I wrote was based on what Newcastle BS told me. Hence me saying it came from the horses mouth:

But before completing the application I rang them up and spoke to someone and explained I wanted to pay in a good bit more but don't have access to it today and said I won't for a few days by which time the account is likely to be gone.

She said no worries as long as you pay the money in using the Sort Code and Account Number and use my application number as reference and pay any more money in within the next 20days and it has cleared in the account by those 20 days it will be fine even if they withdraw the account today which they now have.

    ...

One final thing is she said I could make transfers from accounts other than the linked account as long as they allowed BACS transfers so as to help insure I had it cleared in the Newcastle account before the 20 days are up so as to skip the 3 days or so it will take for the money to clear into my Current Account which I was then going to use to transfer into the Newcastle Account..

Not sure what the difference is between getting it spoken to you by an employee over the phone and an employee telling you via email? Again I must miss the point.

I hold my hands up that I shouldn't have said most, 'some' I agree would have been a much better word to have used. You got me there Guv'!

This post may shed some light on the matter.

Applicants must make an investment by close of business on Tuesday 05 July 2011. If you have selected to fund your Newcastle Premier Bond (Issue 2) online this will take minimum of 7 working days, depending on the date selected during your application to fund the account. Your online account will display a default rate of 0.10%Gross/AER** until the minimum investment has been met or at any time should the balance fall below the minimum balance required as stated in the product terms & conditions.

I think that I am right in saying that, though applications for this account had to be made online, the account comes with a passbook and cannot be viewed online.

I managed to get my application in about 15 mins before it was withdrawn.

I filled out a direct debit form, but did not see any options for selecting a DD date and have received no confirmation that my initial deposit will be taken by DD (I guess I missed an option somewhere!). I'm hoping they will allow me to submit my deposit even though it's now withdrawn.

Yes, I found the same thing - despite setting up a DD, I saw no option to select a date.

At the end of the application process I got a message saying:

    - your application is now complete
    - send us a document as proof of residency
    - make your initial deposit by sending us a cheque or using internet banking etc.

So I immediately sent a utility bill and a cheque using the Freepost address supplied. I don't intend to make any further deposits, so presumably, the DD is now redundant.

Perhaps it was proof of ID that meant you didn't see a date. I didnt need to send any ID, nor did Mrs Kar. We both saw the drop down box to specify a DD date.

That was certainly the case with their Nov 2009 Bond I opened. There is no internet visability unless you have another onlinbe product.

When I opened Premier Bond Issue 1 (April 2011) I was given an online ID and can now view transactions online. No passbook came with the account.

Good point about proof of ID/ no date for DD - though I did give full Driver's Licence and Passport details, moreover I only had to give my current address, and I'm on the electoral roll, so I'm not sure why I was "picked on"!!

In the email you will have received when you opened the account you will see it says:
Alternatively, you can wait for your new User ID to arrive and make your initial investment from your nominated account (if you submitted these details during your application) by logging into your Newcastle Building Society account and selecting 'Make a Transaction'.

So it seems you will be able to log in online for this account.

Just so people know I have made my third BACS payment into the account without any problems today and I also during sign up did the DD for the first available date they offered, so I can confirm there are no issues with making multiple payments into the account.

Also the Direct Debit for the account is now showing in the list of my Direct Debits in my Current Ac. but obviously hasn't been taken as yet.
