I have just received this email from them
    Dear Customer

    Thank you for your order.

Unfortunately Hamleys experienced a technical error on our site at the weekend. This resulted in you being able to apply a discount code more than once. Multiple use of the discount code contravened the terms and conditions of the offer and as a result we are unable to fulfil your order.

We appreciate that at this time of year no one wants to be disappointed. As a gesture we would like to offer you a 25% discount on your next order. Rest assured if you complete your order by the end of today we will guarantee delivery before Christmas.

To use the offer please enter the promotions code ********* at the checkout stage. This offer is more generous than the original terms of the promotion and is valid for 30 days subject to the terms and conditions below.

The funds which were reserved for your order have been released to your account and will be cleared according to your bank’s procedures. No money has been taken from your account.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience that this has caused you. And hope that we can still help to make your Christmas magical.

    Best wishes,

    Hamleys

  • Rather disappointing they publish in the media that all orders will be honoured, apparently on the news at lunch time in some areas, then as soon as that's over with send out this:

Mr_Gordon you've left the code in T&C's. I left my code in as well and had to edit it. :>)

    Hi

It may say released for delivery but the email states that the order has been cancelled and the funds released to your bank account so don't rely on the items for Christmas!! What is worse is that some of the items that I ordered are now showing as out of stock!!

oh wish id actually ordered something now

I had a look on Saturday and couldn't find anything worth ordering - comparing prices of a couple of items the Hamleys prices were ridiculous, so a 60% discount was a bit misleading - eg: £14.99 at Hamleys for the 20Q game which is £7.99 elsewhere (or less with Firebox or IWOOT vouchers for example); Cranium Cadoo is £11.24 at amazon and woolworths - at Hamleys it's double that! (£21.99) RRP is only £14.99....

  • I think that the Guardian may have jumped the gun with it's story though and published it without knowing for sure the orders would be fulfilled.
The reuters article calls Hamleys Scrooge and says they refused to honour the orders - http://today.reuters.co.uk/news/articlenews.aspx?storyid=2006-12-19T134149Z_01_L19765637_RTRUKOC_0_UK-BRITAIN-HAMLEYS.xml&type=domesticNews&WTmodLoc=UK-C3-More-6
