Teenage Daughter has really dry/red skin around her eyes!

Options
Hi, was wondering if anybody could help me, rather than go and buy every product in boots for sensitive(red) eyes for my daughter.

She has sensitive skin (excema etc) and has been prescribed various medications from our doctor (benovat, which helps loads on the creases of her arms, but she cant put that on her eyes), who has prescribed a cream for her eyes, which helps sometimes but i'm convinced the main irritation to her eyes are the wipes she uses to take off her make up ...... tried leaving clear for a few days and skin condition is still there, so we know its not being caused by make up and wipes etc.

I know, the easy solution would be to stop wearing make up which is easier said than done for an 18 year old! She doesnt get on with "simple" range of products and have been looking round shops and anything hypo allegenic etc is so expensive, i just dont know which products are the best to buy.

Dont mind spending money on really decent products which may help, but cant spend £20+ on a dozen bottles which have no affect, i know elimation of certain products is maybe the only solutions.

Just curious as to whether anybody had any good ideas?

Thankyou

I don't get on with simple products either, the best wipes I have found are the No 7 6in1, not cheap though but they often have offers and there is a voucher around for a few days more, I too am sensitive and these gave me no problems, I would also recommend Aveeno Oatmeal cream this worked wonders for dd who has sensitive skin too but in a different way to mine.

I have recently been diagnosed with dry eyes, I had no idea I had this condition but as soon as I used the drops I bought from Boots my eyes felt less itchy and cooler and calmer therefore less rubbing and redness which was odd as I didn't notice I was doing this much beforehand so this might be worth looking into, they also do a gel which is just one application a day which I'll get when I've used up the drops.

I presume you've given her an antihistamine tablet as well:)

Thankyou re No 7 wipes, i got two vouchers i could use thankyou. I have used them before so even if they dont help i know i can use them, thankyou.

Aveeno, can i get this in boots too?

Yes, GP has prescribed her non drowsy antihistamine, helps sometimes but not all the time. She is sitting her A levels at moment, sure its not stress as she's been suffering since December.

She could try aqueous cream for removing make up. Just rub it in and remove with flannel and warm water.

Yep Aveeno is in Boots etc, I was wondering if you have animals, I have loads and they all set my allergies off sometimes a change of antihistamine tablet works, I would also check her diet, dairy products in particular, again from personal experience dairy has several strange effects:(

I know what you mean about exam stress DD took her last GCSE today and she has been stressed out to the max since September.

She could try removing her makeup with oil. I use the oil cleansing method now (there is a thread on it) but I used to simply smear coconut oil around my eyes and wipe off with a damp cotton wool pad. Coconut oil would be very soothing for dry irritated skin, too.

It could be the wipes, but the root cause of the irritation could even be her make up itself, or her make up brushes if she does not wash them regularly. Personally if the skin was broken or sore rather than just dry I would not put make up on it until it had healed.

Is there any way you can get her to leave it clear for longer, as often it can take much longer than a few days for a skin condition to clear up. Mine took a good couple of months at least to fully heal, I think, after I stopped using the product that irritated it. I know she probably knows better than you!

I would recommend she try the oil cleansing method as well - there is a mega thread on here. Would just advise to be careful how you launder the cloths if she does decide to try it - if your detergent is too harsh it might cause further irritation...

It is cheap and very non-allergenic!

You say she suffers from excema? If it's excema round her eyes you may need the 0.5% creme (hydro something), well that's what I was told to use when I had excema round my eyes. Diprobase as well to moisturise, why don't you take her to a pharmacy or doctor and ask?

Yes she does suffer from excema ...... doctor has presribed a hydrocortisone tar solution, which he swears by, it does help but hasnt solved it ...... and she puts it on every night, and if she falls asleep and forgets it comes back with avengence the next day! Its a solution that my doctor requests to be made, and the local pharmacy have to send off for it as they dont stock it, but send of for it at our doctors request ...... apparently quite an expensive tar solution!

Been to the doctor so many times and benovat keeps it at bay on her arms and neck but her main concern is her eyes ..... she's got creams for when its bad and different ones for when its not as bad etc ..... but can only put this tar solution on her eyes x

Im going in search of this thread about oil cleansing method ...;)
