£876 a month, I take home less than that and can pay for a privately rented house, rates, utilities, virgin, travel, food, and still have money spare. I guess some people believe they should live above their means.

I guess it depends where you live, where I was living a while ago, my rent in a shared house was £692+bills on top.

Yes it does depend where you live, so claiming a £18k wage is low where you live, is very different for many other parts of the country.

For a single person, who only has limited outgoings (with it being a council rented property) it's more than enough, especially for someone in receipt of JSA.

It doesn't matter whether he is "better off" financially, or perhaps this is just me, but I like the idea of actually having a job, and moving forward with my career. I guess this is the attitude of a lot of people these days though, "i'm not better of financially so i'll just sit on my !!!! till a job paying me £20k lands at my feet".

If you are moving forward than thats fair enough, but most low paid unskilled jobs are not moving forward posistions, they are the job that they are.

If not working means you can get yourself a better standard of living and higher disposable income, is that not right?

No, it's not. Why should the millions of people who work in dead end jobs, who don't even want to do it, have to pay for you because you think you're better than that?

10 years, unexperienced, job paid 18k a year, now simular job pays, yes 18k a year... how does that work out, wages gone down, cost of living up, done over, robbed etc

    How do you explain it?

£20k year is £300 a week, are you saying that is a good income?

maybe if you are a married couple, with kids, it can be a nice wage.

But for a single person, it is hardly going to be a good standard of living.

    Are you being serious?

I couldn't imagine anybody being able to live on less than £876 per month and pay all the bills! What sort of rent do you pay, what do you eat?

Mum and dad are on meanstested Pension Credit and they get well over £900 per month plus don't pay any rent or council tax, and people say they are at the poverty level.

I have to be totally honest, there is no way I could live on that level of money or would even accept having to! Full time job and bringing home under £900 a month, I'd be looking elsewhere.

Oh right, so you're different to everyone else right?

Everyone is in the same position, wages haven't gone up with inflation, do you read the news or take any interest in world affairs?

£20,000 a year is a good income, yes. If you think otherwise (for someone who claims JSA), then you are not quite right in the head, and obviously have dillusions of grandeur.

It's a minimum wage job, and I live in the north. I pay £450 rent, and eat normally. It's amazing! Nevermind anyway, you're the idiotic troll that made another great thread this morning.

why are they doing it if they don't want to, somthing does not add up here?

Its not about paying for unemployed, some unemployed people actually net contribute to the taxation system. Where as a working couple claiming WTC, CTC etc are the people actually costing the tax payer.

I've been living of £700 - £800 consistently for over a year now, I do earn more but save it for a deposit. Its easily done if you sent your mind to it. Out of this i paid all bills and had around £60 a week for "entertainment" - nights out etc
