Isn't a starting salary of £12,000 pa better than JSA?

I'd say troll, but that's a lot of posts to mount up in order to do it!

You're single, renting through council which means you are paying much less than most people, so you can easily "live" on it.

You'll get a few quid a week WTC, and perhaps a bit of housing benefit also, but unlikely depending on age.

If it's serious, how on earth do you expect a large population of people in this country are able to live on the same, or less wages than £12k yet you "couldn't live on it"?

As I said previously you're single, and living in council housing. You have absolutely NO reason to think that you couldn't live on this wage. Wake up, and get real.

I think the single man is right, 12k is sfa

I can sympathise with any one earning less than 18k or £10 a hour that is it really worth it when you are no better off.

For a single person, who only has limited outgoings (with it being a council rented property) it's more than enough, especially for someone in receipt of JSA.

It doesn't matter whether he is "better off" financially, or perhaps this is just me, but I like the idea of actually having a job, and moving forward with my career. I guess this is the attitude of a lot of people these days though, "i'm not better of financially so i'll just sit on my !!!! till a job paying me £20k lands at my feet".

  • After tax, how much is the take-home pay for £12k a year? What disposable income are you left with after paying the essentials like rent, council tax, utilities, etc?

I don't think this is an option anymore is it? Doesn't JSA stop if you refuse more than x amount of job offers/interviews?

£876 a month, I take home less than that and can pay for a privately rented house, rates, utilities, virgin, travel, food, and still have money spare. I guess some people believe they should live above their means.
