if you have a lidl nearby check in their fancier frozen food section, that's where, if they have them in stock, you'll find sides of salmon encrusted with herbs or tomato, i think it's about 700g for around a fiver (been awhile since i bought one) it's tasty, my daughter loves it and will even eat the skin since it's covered in the herbs etc0

i tend to buy fish at Aldi, will look for fresh fish on offer in the supermarkets and buy if I see anything
We dont have a fishmongers here anymore as it closed due to him retiring0 -
If we lose our local shops (fishmongers, butchers, greengrocer, baker, etc.) then I'm going to relocate, perhaps to a different country. I prefer going shopping on foot or bicycle and buying fresh food every day or so from local people so that money goes into the local economy. Weekly mega-shops by car to an anonymous warehouse many miles away really doesn't appeal at all.
I'm not sure why the UK has turned away from seeing food - and not just the eating of it but the procurement and preparation - as one of life's true joys, but I'm having none of it!I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -

I agree with all you say, but to just to pick at the bold part.
My local butchers is excellent. It has a great reputation, not too bad on price and you can ask questions and pre-order.
Heres the rub. The bloody place opens at 9am and closes at 2pm most days. On sat its 9am - 12noon!
So thats me knackered.
Add in the fact you can't park near it. The nearest parking costs £2 per min 3 hours.
My only chance is a saturday morning. They are queing out the door by 9am. When I get there at 11am, most of its gone and they want me to order for next week.
So I don't use them :shrugs:.
Whilst these shops moan about people not using them, and the "use us or loose us" slogan, they need to know that they need to help us to use them!

That does seem an odd way to do business!
Our butchers are all open until 5ish, but I tend to shop at lunchtime as I'm grabbing my lunch, and parking is a none issue as I just use a bicycle. I'm not sure I could afford the amount of meat that would warrant using a car!I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. It's clean and filleted very nicely thank you! I don't know how they do it but then I don't need to know how a car works to be able to drive one!!

Here's my tip, buy fish from the fishmonger or supermarket counter whole. Get the fishmonger to fillet it and descale it. For example - I bought two whole Salmon in Tesco Yesterday one was £11 the other £12, I got the both filleted and descaled which gave me 4 full length fillets. At home, I then cut each full length fillet in half and bag them for the freezer, £23 gives us 8 salmon meals for 4.
As a comparison we need to buy a whole pre-packed box of Salmon ( Tesco) to get a meal, these cost in the region of £5-7 ea.
Look out for the offers.0 -
Have you tried your local chinese super market, we bought some fab fish and other sea food - huge prawns really cheap and they taste fantasic!!!!!:T:T:T0

I buy reduced fish from Morrisons & freeze for when i want it ..normally pay pennies last week i had a £5 salmon piece for £1.40 odd so well worth looking..also find that if it needs filleting you save even more & get to use your knife skills..0
