We get 2 bags of cod out of the freezer section at Sainsburys,
£5 for both, not their value range either.

We have a great fish market in Leeds, or at least I thought it was great until I visited the markets in Valencia and Alicante last week. Here in the UK, we just don't get what good food is all about.

    I thought that was Yorkshire?

I find white fish a bit dull but any fish bought in supermarkets is ridiculously expensive ATM.

Waitrose wanted £7 for a single tuna steak a couple of weeks ago and this week they had 4 small-ish salmon fillets priced at £9
Yesterday I went to Costco and bought a whole, skinless salmon for £13 and sliced it into 10 decent sized steaks, all now wrapped and safely in the freezer. :D

One of the few white fish we buy is Coley and some natural smoked haddock that our fishmonger gets direct from the smokehouse. Hmmm, maybe I need to count bream as a whitefish? We buy a bit of that too. We also buy mackerel, fresh sardines, herring, octopus, squid, crab, and a bit of cuttlefish.

We avoid cod, haddock, plaice, skate/ray and tuna as so much of it is over-fished. We also buy close to zero fish in supermarkets but that's partly because we use them as little as possible.

What's a "whole skinless salmon"? How do they skin it without cleaning and filleting it?

I think they just skip the cleaning and filleting, skin it then move on to the next one. :D

    I've been Money Tipped!
I try and shop at mark down time, different for each supermarket but it's the only way. We are trying to cut down on red meat and eat more fish.Over the last month I've stocked the freezer with a dozen or so types. At T's I have managed T finest monkfish reduced from 6.50 to 1.30, sea bass the same, plaice for 55p per pack. I never pay more than £2 for 2 salmon steaks, Tillapia fillets 75p, cod, trout, mackrel, kippers all half price or less. All I have frozen. Sainsburys fresh fish counter and W'rose often have good reductions from 6pm. Just wish I had room for a chest freezer. If I see a bargain I have to buy it. Next week anything could happen, but we will never be hungry.
Still buy meat though, can't resist a bargain, always buy finest, taste the diff or free range. Organic if really lucky. Never pay more than £3.50 a kg thanks to markdowns and timing. I Also love my veg but again would never buy it unless it was reduced except for onions and carrotts.
    HTH someone:)

Couple of nice offers starting at Sainsbury from at least Monday.
    600g Salmon at half price so £5 (4 pieces @ 150g).
Skinless Cod fillets. Around 300g but could weigh up to a third more for £3 a pack.

Go to Iceland (the store!!) I buy the bags of 4 haddock (at the mo there is 5th free) and this costs £4. They are a really decent size unlike Mr A's bags of little broken bits. DS and I shared one last night topped with Jamie Olivers peri peri crust (49p in B& M) and Ainsley Harriot lemon and mint cous cous (2 packs for 69p in B&M)
Iceland are doing the same offer in cod but we prefer haddock so can't swear to sizes. PS You can see the fillets in the bag and therefore make an informed choice before buying.

Another big Iceland fan here for fish and the sizes of thier boxed fish is very good not tiddlers at all!
