Hi, I think we have somehow blocked our kitchen sink with fat that has gone hard
What is it i can put down it to try & unblock it without having to pop to the shops & by some expensive chemical made especially for the job?! Ive tried running hot water down but its not shifting very fast.....
Thanks

can you get the u-bend off easily? If you can then you can clean it manually with a brush or soak it in boiling water.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0

If not, caustic soda (from a hardware shop) will do the trick.
TAKE CARE though - wear goggles and rubber gloves - caustic can cause serious burns.
We have an older thread on how to unblock sinks - I'll add your question to keep suggestions together.

I just cleared a kitchen sink blockeage using a bottle half filled with water BUT now i am concerned about all the rubbish lurking in there. What do you use to keep your pipes all fresh and lovely...............DFW since JAN 2009 - 2014 will be the year i finally clear debts

Hi natalie,
I use bicarbonate of soda followed by a glug of vinegar. It fizzes up and helps clear the pipes. There's an earlier thread with lots more ideas:
Stinky sink
I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

I use soda crystals and hot water to keep my sink clean - seems to work0

I use soda crystals and hot water too it is a lot cheaper than paying for a commercial sink unblocker. Also every 6 months I get my OH to take the elbow of and I give it a really good clean out - so far so good. HTHBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
