Christmas babies and birthdays

My Estimated due date is 8th January, so it's entirely possible that baby will come during christmastime, 37weeks onwards is considered full term and that puts me bang slap in Santa territory
in fact my auntie in law (if there is such a thing) was insisting that the baby will come on 20th December, why that date i've no idea, but she was fairly adamant!
so this thread is useful for suggestions as how to handle it, i think we'll be ok if it's any day but 25th, my cousin is the 27th so at least my mum's side is used to making sure his birthday is still special, although he's now 30 so probably doesn't mind so much!
If it makes anyone feel better, July birthdays are also pap. mine is the 24th and i've not had one birthday where everyone i want to be with was at home, so at most i have about 3 people, including my husband who'll come celebrate with me, cos it's prime holiday season, or i'd been dragged on holiday as a kid with my mum and dad so i only got their present on the day, very important to a small child lol
Although it is a good excuse for a posh hotel for the night, which is what i'm angling for this yearx x

Hi ya
My birthday is New Years Eve, and my mums is 27th Dec, and I had my dd on 6th Jan.
I too had the joint presents and cards and presents wrapped in Xmas paper, and hated that the weather was always poop, and was v jealous of my brother whose birthday is in Aug, when we always had a big family BBQ, tho one year I demanded a BBQ on new years eve, which we did lol, was so blimmin cold. I could never hire any hall for a party, so I was always restricted to house parties but it still didn't stop us dressing up and having a good time, and there were always fireworks at the end lol.
But I'm going to make sure my lo has her special day, take down the Xmas decs and make a fuss of her, tho next time I think i'll plan a summer baby lol:j baby lauren born 06/01/2011 + got married 02/07/2011 :j0 -
I am end of January - before payday:( so I always have and always will get joint presents. I made a massive deal of it when I was little, as we often got the same presents... I.e I got a tv an sister got a tv, mine was a joint then hers was a single present. Now I'm not bothered- I totally get the expense of that time of year! What I don't like is that none of the clubs have any decent nights in January as they are quiet after Christmas. (obviously I didn't mind that when I was didgy!). Thus major birthdays were normally a quiet affair. Also, I never had a bouncy castle party or a BBQ or an outdoor party- always indoorS (sleepiness galore!)If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0

My 15yr old has a birthday on boxing day..she LOVES the fact it is so close to christmas as she never has to go to school and prob won't work on her birthday (she wants to work in child care)
We always make sure her birthday presents are wrapped in birthday paper and I made a point in saying no-one was to give her presents wrapped in xmas paper or a joint birthday/xmas present.
When she was younger we always had a party the weekend before xmas and santa always popped in at the end, even now her friends say that was always the start of their christmas really cos they were so excited
We don't drink much/have a late night xmas night and have always gotten up whatever time she wanted (within reason) like we do for her brothers birthday. We also tend to go round the shops and either out for tea or get a take away....for years we had mcdonalds which we use to laugh about...boxing day and mcdonals for tea but its her choice as its her birthday.
I also have a sons birthday on 5th December and one i March and the same rules apply for both their birthdays
One thing I would say is not to do the 1/2 birthday thing, loads of people mentioned it to me but we knew we wanted more kids and went on have 2 boys so that would mean 6 birthday celebrations lol....Oh and both boys would LOVE to swap with her birthday wise :-)0 -
Nan's birthday is Boxing Day (her poor Mum!) and a friends is 30th December. They both get a small present each, so one for b.day and one for xmas. Would be unfair otherwise. All other friends/ family get 2 gifts so why not them? Just a case of a much smaller gap in paying out lol.0

My little girl's (6 years) birthday is Christmas Eve and for the last two birthdays we've had the immediate family celebration and presents on her birthday, but her party in the summer. This has worked out really well and my daughter and her friends really look forward to her half birthday.0

My birthday is 27th December. I have luckily never got joint presents (but did get a few rubbish things from boxing day sales over the years!)
When I was growing up my mum encouraged people to give money for my birthday and she'd virtually make me put it away, so when it came to summer and I wanted something I could still get it and not have to wait til December to ask for it as a gift!OU Student! - ED209, SDK125, DSE212, SK124, DSE141, SD226, DXR222, DD303, DD307 = BSc Psychology0 -
My birthday is also the week between Christmas and the new year, and really I hate it! I liked it when i was younger as it kind of extended Christmas celebrations and i was always sick of christmas dinner by then so was able to demand something nice!
Nowadays - I do not like it at all, No-one ever wants to go out, and you can't move your birthday to the closest weekend as its usually to near the other celebrations. The joint presents and presents in christmas paper really annoy me too, is it really that much effort to buy some other wrapping paper!
My brothers birthday is christmas eve, and he actually has an easier time than me as people always remember it, although quite often he is travelling home on his birthday but he likes this as it means he gets the mornign with his friends and the evening with his family. Birthday parties were always on the 23rd fro him.
The only good thing about mine is that generally you do get better presents as people pick up bargains in the sales!
Nowadays, I have been going away for a few days with my bf who happens to share the same bithday, and alhtough its nice, its difficult to feel special!Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -
My husband is the 15th December and we've never put the christmas tree up till the day after
We're hoping to make this a proper tradition once we have kids, so that we can enjoy his birthday.
The only things I have found is I needed to plan ahead for nice birthday cards, as the selection is a lot smaller. Especially when I was buying fiance ones!
He has commented he would love to celebrate his 40th properly next year but 'doesn't see the point' as no one will be free due to work/family christmas parties. Im seriously wondering about organising a surprise one months in advance so everyone has good notice!!!Green and White Barmy Army!0 -
I'm late january and just before most people's paydays, so I'm with you on the noone wanting to go out thing, there are always excuses "detox", "skint" etc etc.
But my family have always made it special, even with no money.
Good luck with your baby xxClicking, searching and surveying my way to a life of debt freedom!
