    Xmas Saver!
My daughter (now 4) was born on boxing day. She was due on the 13th though! She only arrived 15mins into Boxing Day so all through the labour I was trying to decide what we would do in future if her birthday was xmas day. We were going to split the day into 2 and have morning for xmas and afternoon for her. Luckily she held off till Boxing day, and its all her day.
She doesn't get "joint" presents, she doesn't have "xmas" cake and food, we make it her day and its quite good as no-one is at work so she gets to see her family. We were quite popular last year having her party in the week after xmas, as all her friends were driving their parents mad with the holidays so a party to wear them out was quite welcome.
One of her best friends birthday is Christmas Eve, he has a half birthday in June, and he has his party and presents then.

We do treat our daughter during the year if she wants some summer toys otherwise she'd never get them!
:j Is MSE saving me money, or making me spend more on all the bargains?!:j

We have a 29th December birthday, and I take down xmas and put up birthday, most of the family have been good about birthday wrapping, and I put xmas pressies on a pile but hide birthday ones. We will be going down the route of smaller things for xmas and bigger things for birthday from us that he can buy in the sales.

    Hello :)

My niece's birthday is the 20th December, and so far hasn't seemed too bothered by her birthday being so close to christmas-she is only 6 though.

My due date is the 21st December this time around, so very close to christmas! My last baby arrived two days before my due date, so i don't know what to expect this time :)

I like the idea of a half birthday party/celebration, either that or i'd like to make sure he/she does get a special day for their birthday when family and friends can all make it.

My birthday's on Boxing day, although I was due 2 weeks earlier, and my poor mum was induced on Christmas Eve :o

When I was growing up we always had a special meal (my choice and not leftovers), and we didn't do any relative visiting, so it was separate and special from the rest of christmas. My mum also made sure she had non-Christmas wrapping paper etc, so it was distinct. I've never minded (apart from my stingy godparents who used to send me a "joint" £10 book token, when my bro who's birthday is only 5 weeks later got £10 for each ) and now I quite like it :) I always get my birthday off work :D

The main problem is organising parties, as everyone's got lots of plans between christmas and new year, plus is a bit broke due to all the other parties etc. For my 30th this year () I'm having an official birthday at the end of January, because I want a proper party for a change, so will wait until the payday after Christmas so all my friends can afford it :)

Our son was due 21st Decemeber. I was sat eating Christmas Dinner at my parents thinking please don't come today! In the end he was 2 weeks 'late' and born the 4th January. He'll be 3 next January and I am starting to worry now that he'll understand it, he's got friends and will probably go to a couple of birthday parties towards the end of this year too.
It's great for picking up a bargain though. His first birthday we got him a Smart Trike which was half price. This year we got him an easel which was in the sale, it got stuck in transit in the snow so the retailer gave us a partial refund. What should have been £60 cost £14!
Next year I think we'll take his friends to softplay, pay for lunch for them and their parents. He hasn't got many friends at the moment so I don't think there would be much point in hiring a place out. If our house was bigger then I'd do a little party here.
I am going to organise a little garden party in the summer holidays for him. No pressents involved but lot's of fun and cake!

My bday is the 22nd Dec, my husbands is the 23rd Dec, my Mum's is Christmas Day and my daugters is New Years Day.

We all have our special day as normal and never get combined presents, even my Mum.

I've got 2 other children too, whose bdays are 8th and 9th May, and they get to celebrate their bdays as they wish.

No half bdays in this house!

They don't leave you 14 days over any more.. they induce at day 10 usually.. so you are looking at the 21st at the latest.

My birthday is the 26th and my daughters the 19th. OH's sisters is the 22nd... bizarrely All 3 of us were a month early!! In my family there are 27 birthdays in December and 15 in January.

I don't think birthdays BEFORE are a probem at all TBH... their birthday gets as much recognition as if it had been July.. They just focus it on the weekend before the birthday so it is away from christmas so your baby won't have a problem at all. It is birthdays between 24th Dec and 2nd Jan. that seem to have issues.

Mine however.. it is the single most hated day of the year!

I REFUSE to accept 'birthday' presents wrapped in christmas paper.. everyone knos it is my birthday all year round it doesn't just get decided upon the day before.
I REFUSE joint presents.. if my birthday was any other time of year I'd get separate ones.. so I want separate ones.
I REFUSE cards with 'christmas birthday' on them.. my birthday isn't about christmas.. nor is christmas about my birthday so as they are unrelated I want them kept that way.

I have NEVER EVER been out on my birthday.. not my 18th, not my 21st, not my 30th.. nothing.. not 1... Not because noone was available, I come from a famiy of alcoholics there is ALWAYS someone available but because by the tie christmas day is done and boxing day is done I am so exhausted by 8pm I couldn't get ready and go out if I tried!

I wouldn't bother with a 'second' birthday.. just have an easter party or halloween party or any excuse for cae party it wold detract from the actual birthday which isn't fair after all you go though getting the little thing out their birthday becomes recognition of that fact too.

August birthdays are difficult too with school holidays.. friends often lose invitaions so don't turn up or are on holiday so don't turn up.. beyond school they are the same as everyone elses but it is really the school years when it is important.

And.. plan the next one better :p

  • My niece was born on Christmas Eve and we've always got her seperate presents as although yes it is the day before Christmas it's still not the same day.
Maybe when she gets older (she's only 10) things will be different but until then we try and make it 2 seperate days for her.

With regards to parties, my 2 nephews (13 and 8) are both born on Nov 15th, they all share the same friends so when they have their party Hannah gets a cake too :)

My brother's birthday is 9th December, so not so close as some. My parents always made a point of never putting any Christmas cards up until 16th December so my brother had a week of only his birthday cards being up.

They always put the Christmas tree up on his birthday though, but he used to love that especially if it was a school day as we'd come home to the house all decorated. It was like his birthday signalled the start of the Christmas season, but his birthday was definitely celebrated separately before Christmas got into full swing.

I still put my tree up on the 9th now, as it's become a sort of tradition :)
