The no buying cleaning products challenge

Comments

  • Hi Candygirl - I'm up for the challenge - I have a cupboard full of the bloomin stuff and I'll include washing powder/liquid and softener in with my challenge - I hate buying cleaning stuff and I'm particularly weak when it comes to the antibacterial wipes so that will be my personal challenge - not to buy them but to use up the spray stuff that I have in abundance [bleach is all I really need]

    Love a challenge I do

    Helen x

You should buy a small bottle of grapefruit essential oil (Ebay are fab) for a pound odds. It's the best antibacterial oil around :j plus it makes your kitchen/loo/kiddies fingers smell ace. :D
You can even take a little pinch of salt add a few drops of the essential oil into the salt and add the salt into an empty spray bottle with some water to use as an antibac spray :D
I do it and i wouldn't change it now. x

Don't think I've done much cleaning this week, so my stash remains the same!! Glad we're not the only one's with cleaner for leather furniture under the sink! Good job they don't put use by dates on such things. (Now one of you is going to tell me they do???)
    Resolution:
    Think twice before spending anything!
  • Count me in too :j Just need to get OH in on the act as he is the worst. I tend to be as eco friendly (and Money saving :D) as possible and he goes and ruins all the goodness that i had put in :rotfl:
We only have the bare minimums, I've got a great recipe for laundry gel (we use the laundry gel from asda's just now and it's fab) apparently the recipe works out at around $1.10 per 100 or so washes (i'm in the UK so dont know how much that is except it sounds great)
I also use soda crystals and grapefruit essential oil at the moment, our biggy will be the washing liquid. I've tried the soap nuts and they were good but not for the tough stains. :o
Shall go searching for some homemade recipes or ask my mum how she managed during the war lol :rotfl::rotfl:

I'm always well/over stocked. I think I could probably go for over a year without buying cleaning products.

I use eco balls instead of soap powder and fabric conditioner and have at least 5 eco balls in stock. I live on my own so my clothing is never heavily stained but if one of my grandchildren is staying and I have stained bibs etc I add some soda crystals to the wash.

I do a thorough clean about once a month and do other cleaning on a 'need to' basis. I work full time plus and look after one of my grandsons 2 days a week so I'm pretty busy so I'm probably not cleaning as much as a family with several children.

I sometimes think that I need to stop overstocking when things are on special offer but it is a very hard habit to break so this challenge might be good for me.

This week I have been busy cleaning my dad's house ready for him to move out, and I've managed to use some of my cleaning products there, including about half a bottle of stardrops and a load of soda crystals, but I have to admit I've had to buy some more soda crystals as I've almost run out. I've also used up a bottle of washing up liquid, and a bottle of toilet cleaner.

Very interesting to know that about grapefruit oil. I'm almost at the point where I need to make up some more laundry gloop (probably do it tomorrow so it's ready before my nights start again). I've got some Lavender oil and have just bought another bottle but I don't want the stuff to just smell of Lavender. I like citrus smells so I might go for Grapefruit and Manadarin or some such combination. Need to go around smelling whiffs and combinations methinks!
