It was terribly confusing, or am I just very easily confused these days?

I was confused for a while as well as I wasn't sure what was being answered in what post.

How is this thread confusing? I really don't understand the confusion here - your confusion is now confusing me..!!

It is absolutely two different people asking two separate, albeit similar, questions.

Thanks for your help all. Here's wishing you less confused times. ;)

Hi, not from my own experience but my Mum, I think that there are probably threads on here somewhere about using bank statements.

Thanks. I did do a search before first posting but couldn't find anything.
  • show market price then(if you have it), and market price now so that the item can be replaced.
  • Hi all, I have had a similar experience with Royal mail, I wonder if anyone can help. I posted over £500 worth of gold to scrap gold uk and it has gone missing, Royal mail are making it difficult for me to claim.

They want the original receipt of posting which I have but am reluctant to post in case they say they have lost that too then I have nothing. Also they want evidence of what my gold was worth, im not sure how they expect me to do that as I don’t have it anymore???

Firstly how did you send it- special delivery with the correct insurance I hope.

if that is the case have you given them the tracking number as that will of course show it has not been delivered? Then if they want proof of the address you sent it to photocopy your special delivery slip and send the original to them- then phone up a few days later to make sure they have it. Special delivery is a guaranteed service as you shouldn't have too many problems.

However proof of value is a harder thing to prove, you will have to find something to show value, original receipts, insurance valuations etc? Without sounding rude, RM would be foolish to pay out £500 without some idea of what was in the envelope, at the very least I assume you have some sort of valuation from the gold company so they knew what they were expecting?

    Send it via Special Delivery.

To be fair I think most companies would want some kind of proof of the value of an item you sent worth £500 before paying out.

  • It was sent by special and we valued it at £500, in fact it could be worth more but we will never know now so will have to settle at the £500. Of course we don’t have original receipts for old gold?? Who would! Its gold that my mum owned for years and years and is no longer going to wear. All we can do is ask Scrap gold if they keep records of our original enquiry as when we value it before sending it just gives you a ref not an estimated value receipt. At the end of the day Royal Mail lost it and if they had not done so they would not have to pay out, this is what the insurance is for surly.

    Hi all,
Has anyone made a claim through Royal Mail recently for a lost item?

Yes, about six months ago. I asked for a lost items form at the post office, which I filled in and attached to it computer print outs of the ended auctions to claim for the item's value and attached the receipt I was given when posting them to claim for the postal costs. Took a while to hear back from them, but I received everything I asked for as a cheque. I had worried I might not be able to prove it never arrived as I was basically taking the word of the buyer that it hadn't, but there was no problem. My claim was about £30, so I'm not sure if higher value claims are scrutinised more or not.
