Royal Mail, lost parcel claim - what's classed as proof of value?

Hi all,
I can't find anywhere relevant to post this so I'm putting it here... (this isn't an ebay item btw)
Has anyone made a claim through Royal Mail recently for a lost item?
I sent a parcel several weeks ago and it hasn't yet been delivered. I no longer have the receipts for the items in it.
On the P58 form that I have to send back it says if you are making a claim "Original proof of value if claiming for the contents, e.g. till receipt, bank statement, etc. (see section 8 for more details)"
Looking at section 8 there aren't more details on the types of 'proof of value' that they will accept...
Would I be right in thinking they will accept just bank statements as proof?
Several years ago I made a claim for a parcel that disappeared and that I no longer had the receipt for... if I remember right I think I used a bank statement to show the cost of the item, but I don't know if things have changed...
If you have made a claim recently and you didn't have the receipt, what forms of proof did they accept?
Thanks all

If this is an ebay sale and you are a private seller then RM will accept value as being the ebay sale value. Just print off the paypal refund page and the ebay sale page.
If this is not ebay then you might have a problem. I had a huge fight trying to get compensation for a parcel sent to my mother that failed to arrive. In the end they paid out for the items I could prove a value for using original receipts, but would not pay out for the extra bits and pieces I had included.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Hi
My parcel I sent on the 2 June by first class recorded has not arrived to company I sent for refund of purchase. Online it states parcel sent 2 June from local post office, try again later. When I call up I'm always told to call the other department. I wanted to know if I claim next week, how much compensation will I get for items value £121.00. I also sent the original receipt in parcel, as return form was on the back, but I kept copy, would that be enough as they state original. Do you need to send original bank statement, is it safe? Thanks0 -
Well my parcel still hasn't surfaced...
No, this isn't an ebay item. I guess I'll just have to try with a bank statement.
dr3amz, I wouldn't send an original statement (and remove any account details)0 -
Thank you for your reply jlajla. This is the first time this has happened. On their site the whole compensation summary box is confusing, along the lines of getting 100x first class stamps. I don't want stamps but my money back. Do you think I will get my money back?0

I don't know if this is one person posting as two different people or two separate people. But it's very confusing.
Recorded delivery is only covered for compensation of up to £46, the same value as 100 1st class stamps. RM will often try & turn down a claim when the value exceeds this.
For the person who sent back the receipt with the return, either a bank statement or if it was an online purchase can you download the invoice-receipt from the suppliers website?0 -

I presume you're refering to the other posts?
Can anyone help me with my query? Is there a better place to post this on the forum?
Thanks all.
you can use your bank statement for proof. Was the value of your parcel more than £46 as that is all you're covered for with recorded delivery.0 -
Hello hermum,
That's good to hear - do you know this from your own experience?
No, the value isn't over £46. I wouldn't ever post anything without being covered for it's value.

I think it is two different posters and i can't see how to tidy up the thread to seperate the two questions.Thank you for your reply jlajla. This is the first time this has happened. No you won't get your money back as you used the wrong postal service. You might be lucky enough to persuade them to refund the £46 covered by standard mail if you submit a claim. You can start a claim after 15 workiing days.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Hi, not from my own experience but my Mum, I think that there are probably threads on here somewhere about using bank statements.0
