Are you using the power adapter that came with the laptop or a replacement universal multivoltage laptop power adapter?
If you have access to a multimeter you could check that the power adapter is outputting the correct voltage. A faulty power supply or a universal power supply with the voltage set higher than the laptop requires would cause more heat to be generated in the internal voltage regulation circuits.
Does the battery hold charge only for a short time? As others have said check without battery because a bad cell can generate lots of heat.
Also can you feel the hot air exhausting through the vents? My laptop runs a lot cooler but I can still feel the hot air coming out the back when the fan kicks in. If you can't feel the hot air on the tips of your fingers it would suggest a faulty fan or blocked vent.0 -
As said above, are you sure the fan is working properly? It could be running slow or not turning at all.0

Sorry not been back til now, it's hard to find the time around my daughter and I have a few health probs. Anyway, I think it's running cooler and definitely faster, thank you!
To those that asked I'm using a acer power supply, old one broke a few weeks back and replaced it, but it was hot with the old one too. Battery is knackered and only lasts 45 mins or so unplugged.

Sorry so late back to this, life keeps getting in the way...laptop not yet blown up anyway!!
I tried to do the temp without the battery but it would only give the assembly one not the others? That stayed the same.
I think overall it is a bit cooler and definitely running a bit faster on start up, still gets very hot though when been on charge for a while.

Probably need a new fan. I've just spent the day changing thermal paste and fans on half a dozen laptops. What a day.... bits everywhere. Why must Acer's require eveything to be dismantled to change the fan. Arrrghhhh!!! Some of the fans just weren't able to spin at full speed so changed all of them too. Saves having to do it later. Now running at 50 degrees constant with fan on lowest spin setting. Ran a cpu testing program at 100% cpu and temperature goes up to 75 degrees and stays there with the fan on max. Much better. Used to go to 98 degrees and cpu throttling kicked in to save itself from dying.:footie:

I wonder if it is the fan? I can feel air at times but not as much as I think my work laptop did..don't have that anymore to compare to though.
