laptop very very hot

Options
I'm worried it's going to die!

In the past have used a cooling stand, but every time I buy one they seem to break within a week, not sure if it's the stands or my laptop causing it.

My BIL gave this laptop a hoover and unblocked the fans not so long ago, but it is so so hot, it's obviously not enough. Is there anything else I can do? Is it in danger of dieing on me?

Don't block the vents up, check to see if you have processes hogging the cpu in task manager. and backup your data

Is there anything I can do to fix this? Or is it new laptop time?

I think BIL checked CPU and was fine. I have it on a defunct laptop stand as is too hot/uncomfortable otherwise, is this a bad idea?

    Is the fan spinning?

    model?

what are you doing when it gets hot?

    where are the vents?

    how hot is it?

added a picture to my post

it makes a good join between the processor and the heatsink/fan assembly

its the way the heat from the processor is pushed out of the laptop

it oftens starts to break down or fail. Will involve at least a partial dismantle of the laptop though

It gets hot always, so not doing a lot really (silly I know but have had other things going on).

    It;s an acer aspire 5920

Stupid stupid answer - is the fan spinning if I can hear a noise? (told you non-techie). BIL said all but one of the vents were blocked when he cleaned it but said afterwards was fine. Can't feel any air at all under the laptop though, just extremely hot!

Browntoa, your photo makes it look like it's in the middle of the laptop, is that right? That's very hot and the paper sticker on the outside has almost wilted a bit there.

    Should I download that link?

It's really, really hot - almost too hot to touch but not quite. Has been like this for a long time but seems a bit worse in last few months.

    Vents are underneath.

run the software above to find out how hot.

if it's hot, there should be air blowing out of the vents - if they are blocked (internally or externally) it will get hot. lift it up away from knees/table/tray and see if the temp goes down

what is the cpu utilisation in task manager
