Pizza Hut...Why so lacklustre?

Myself & OH decided to use one of the Pizza hut vouchers shown on here today.
We went to our local PH around 2.30pm about 20 people were already dining.
There is a mantle when you go in where you wait to be seated,a couple of girls were at the counter not one even made eye contact with us..eventually a young lad came over and showed us to our seats.
then we waited and waited... a girl came over handed us menus no hello or anything.
She then walked off and we waited & waited again.
When she came to take our order she just stood at the table without saying anything so we gave our order, which to be fair was quick and hot.
But that's it..not another single interaction with our server, she did'nt even leave us plates,No offer of drink refills or is our meal ok. Eventually we got up asked for a takeaway box, paid our bill and left, the place was just half full.
None of the staff seemed happy to be there at all..it's such a shame that they feel we are a hinderance when dining there.
I was brought up to say please, thank you and at least try and smile,No matter how hard your day is.
I said thank you so much in that restaurant I felt embarrassed that nothing was being returned.
This seems to happen all to often here in the UK...why are we so disinterested in each other?:(

I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂
  • I have to say that your experience of Pizza Hut wasnt a good one at all.

I work in the food service industry but for a small privately owned cafe/restaurant as Manageress.

I have to say that over the years I have worked for minimum wage and for much less. (Showing my age as I worked before minimum wage became law)

Never have I been intentionally rude and indifferent to customers as at the end of the day ...........they pay your wages.

I am quite surprised at your experience with Pizza Hut as our local one is one of the best places I have seen in recent years for well trained and organised staff.

Each place is only as good as the person training them of course.

I would write to head office as Im sure they would like to rectify things in this branch.

If they dont know whats happening they cant do anything.

I've been to PH @ 3 different places in the last couple of months and find they are fairly friendly.

Maybe just a one or two off.

I luv the mushrooms n cheese the best. The pizzas aren't overly special but with Bogof or the latest £5 pizza n Free salad it's ok.

Best thing is to write to HO - be constructive and factual in the issues you raise (rather than just sounding like a critcal customer). Hopefully then the management can address the training of the staff, although we do think as adults it's obvious to make eye contact, smile etc etc, to some esp young people who are working saturday jobs it isn't. I remember working in a bar at that age, my first training was being told, remember to make eye contact and smile at the customer. Now as an adult I would always do that, but even as a polite, well educated teen, someone still 'taught' me what to do.

We've now totally given up with one particular Pizza Hut...it seems to only ever be staffed by kids, with no discernible sign of anybody in charge, we can wait 10 mins to get seated even when only a third of the tables are taken, dirty tables remain uncleaned for ages while the staff all chat amongst themself and several items on the menu aren't available.
But at another one more local to me it's the opposite - even when it's really busy the staff are friendly, polite, apologise for any delays (though they're miles faster than at the other one!). And the food seems nicer.
Does seem to be dependent on which one you go to
