Should I pay her?

Ooh those old mags!they made fab packaging/padding for that old computer you sold.
If you have any more bits&bobs to put on ebay get in touch, by email, as selling can bring the taxman in focus.0 -
I think you just have to write off the money for sorting the Mac out to experience. As for the magazines, it was 7 years ago so I would say they must have got put out for recycling or something like that. After having nothing to do with her for 7 years I would just carry on ignoring her now. She used you for her convenience at the time and she probably used the other person who sorted out her new pc. Just tell her you no longer have them and dont speak to her anymore.0

What I find more surprising is that it's one thing advocating a "simple" seller shafts buyer on eBay type situtation, but this is a matter of criminal law, not civil law. People are suggesting that the OP should cover up and lie about what is a criminal offence, and have no qualms in suggesting that. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

why do you need to respond to her anyway, i assume she left a message or something? Why not just ignore her rather than lie/tell truth. If she ever hassles you again then say you never got her message/moved house/changed number etc0

She was wrong to not pay you
You were wrong for selling goods that don't belong to you.
I may be wrong here, but her offence is a civil one but yours could well be classed as criminal.
sorry but....
u giving advice here or preaching??
criminal offence??? come off it the CPS wud laugh soooo hard....
get real :A0 -
Lol - if you could bear it, collect 50 "men's" magazines and pass them on to her. That should keep her occupied for a wee while.
Seriously - I would ignore her to be honest.0 -

I didn't reply to her message. If she emails I will ignore, if she phones, ditto, of she comes to the house I won;t open the door, but she might bump into me in the supermarket... so I thought I'd better decide in advance what I am going to say rather than end up going er, um.
I have decided to say that I read them all in about a month and gave them back. That's my story and I am sticking to it now no matter what. I don't care if techincally it's against the law, MORALLY I am still losing £230 on the deal because of her exploiting my good nature.
So thanks everyone, the case is now closed. Cheers xxx0 -
"MORALLY I am still losing £230 on the deal because of her exploiting my good nature."
Lol, never fails to amaze me the morality on this board.
Quite simply you borrowed books off her and sold them, they were lent i.e. she expected to get them back. If 10 magazines sold for £100 8 years ago you can be pretty sure they were worth a lot more than that and by your own admission you avoided her afterwards, so not like she could pop round and pick them up over a cup of tea
What were these magazines? Shouldn't be hard to find their true value.0 -
I think she'd already decided to blag the money.
She just needed to be told it was the right thing to do0
