Quite simply you borrowed books off her and sold them, they were lent i.e. she expected to get them back. If 10 magazines sold for £100 8 years ago you can be pretty sure they were worth a lot more than that and by your own admission you avoided her afterwards, so not like she could pop round and pick them up over a cup of tea

What were these magazines? Shouldn't be hard to find their true value.

YOU ARE WRONG. They were not books, there were not ten of them, and it didn't happen the way you say it did. Mandy, don't bother posting if you are merely going to misrepresent what happened and twist it to make me look bad.

This woman conned me out of money and I recouped part of what she owed me from the sale of a few women's magazines that she had not bothered to ask for in over a year.

Thank you to those who made genuine, thoughtful responses. I've made my decision and have no need to return to this thread.

I will certainly not react to any more trollish posts like mandy's.

Surely you mean thanks to the other posters who agreed with you conning some old dear and helping you think up excuses like persuading her she's losing her mind or got alzheimers etc.

We've only heard one side of the story and let's face it, it aint pretty. If you can't justify telling her the truth then surely you must know you're in the wrong. It's not like you don't want to tell the truth to save her feelings is it?

Personally I do not think whether the £100 from selling the magazines was eaten as prawns or pasta changes things.

does it matter what bungle spends HER cash on?? she was asked to do a favour and sold a unwanted pc, taking time to not only set up a new ebay account for the other person but put a detailed description of said pc... was agreed that when the pc was sold that any cash over and above £800 would belong to her. weither you put this down as a thank you or payment doesnt matter the offer was made and accepted. when the pc was sold the owner did not had over the extra cash as promised!! if this was me I would be very cross! (having sold some items recently on ebay I decided where the cash was going before i recieved it..)

you can also so look at the magazines as a seperate issue... the were LENT to the op by the other woman, no lenth of time given to their return, they were lent before the pc problem, so I would feel taking them as part payment (as the amount owed was larger than the value of the mags) would be acceptable. many companys would do this so why not the op????

morally... no problem. theft? not at all.
