2. No, she did not mean me to have the mags as payment. She lent me the mags weeks before deciding to sell the Mac. She was very casual about the mags. While "babysitting" her elderly, senile mother (since deceased) I'd seen them on a bookshelf and started reading one, and she came home, was pleased to see me reading it, and said something like, "you can borrow the lot, if you like". No dire warnings about taking care of them, no mention of their being precious to her, and no time limit on how long I could borrow them. This was eight years ago and she's never asked for them back till now.

3. Yes she definitely agreed to pay me. I didn't ASK for any payment, I was just helping her out for free (cos I help people out a lot) when she spontaneously OFFERED off her own bat with no prompting from me, to give me anything I could get over the £800. She just wanted to get back what she'd paid. She herself had bought the Mac, almost new, off someone she described as "desperate for cash" and she may well have exploited his neediness by offering £800 and not a penny more for something that was worth much more. I'm speculating a bit, bit this would explain why it sold for £1,100 on Ebay.

4. If the Mac sold for £800 or less, I would have got nothing. That was fine by me.

5. I'd forgotten this when posting the first post, but now I remember, the lady asked the buyer to pay cash on collection (possibly to save pp fees).

I suppose I should have mentioned, she'd done some underhand things to me before this, and welching on the Mac sale deal was the final straw, after which I have blanked her for all these years, looking the other way if I pass her in the street etc. My guess is that she's only recently discovered that the mags had a "street value", hence chasing me.

Maybe I should also mention, out of interest, this retired spinster businesswoman owns 17 rental properties bought with inherited money, and when I was friendly with her she was househunting with a cash budget of £350k. She used to take me with her to view houses, picking my brains for advice on which to buy. In the end she paid £300k for a house then spent £100k on improvements. I am single and earn £10k p.a.. I tell you this only so you can understand the gigantic discrepancy in our levels of wealth. Had she been one of my poor friends, I would have told her to keep her £330.

Just a thought here. Is it not possible that she is now computer-savvy with the help of her new friend, and has checked your feedback on Ebay and has noticed the sale of these magazines which has jogged her memory about lending them to you?

Not at all!

For starters, she WASN'T a friend. She was someone who exploited my need for cash by paying me less than minimum wage to granny-sit for her. Through this we became fairly friendly acquaintances, and she started taking me house-hunting with her, and I accepted because I love everything to do with house-property etc and enjoyed viewing houses that I will never be able to afford myself. However, she messed me about rather a lot during this, like after I'd granny-sat she had no cash and would "pay me next time", then when next time came she'd pretend she could not remember not paying me last time, that kind of thing. Second, I wasn't "taking money off her" - she spontaneously offered. She made a bargain with me - if I got £800 or less for it, then I got paid nothing. Anything over, I could have. That was the deal, then I kept my side of the bargain (all the work in creating a spec and photos, as described in #1) and she welched on it.

I'm astonished that you find me in any way reprehensible for keeping my side of the bargain 100% while she welched on hers 100%.

Maybe you are just a troll, saying outrageous things just to get a reaction? Hmmm.... well I am replying in serious vein and in good faith that you are not one.

No. I sold them seven years ago and it's not possible to see a person's feedback from that time (even if she knew my Ebay ID, which she doesn't.)

I hate to say this but selling something which doesn't belong to you is tantamount to theft (since they weren't yours to sell), and by your own admission, it was intended that you return the magazines, I would be very careful what you do and say since if she complains to the police you could find yourself in hot water. The fact that she has money is neither here nor there.
