I'd be soooo....tempted to tell her that you sold them in order to retrieve the money she had verbally agreed to pay you.

Say that you were very shocked at how much money they went for.

Imagine the sleepless nights she'll have wondering how much they were worth! She doesn't appear to have worried at all about you and has no morals nor manners.

Yes, I rather like the idea of claiming I read them quickly then gave them back, Saying I sold them to partly cover what she owes me could just lead to an argument.....

Tell her you dumped the magazines in a charity shop, as you thought they might of interest to someone.

'Sorry, but you told me to sell them as part payment for the Mac, so I did'.

Then just move on and help someone more deserving.

Ever since Jamsandwich suggested telling her I'd given them back shortly after she'd lent them, I realised that saying such a thing could well be an argument-stopper.

i.e. she can't argue about the £330 if I don't cite that as the reason I sold the mags; she can't be angry with me for selling them; she cannot demand the money I got for them.....

The only response she can make is "No you didn't (give them back)" to which my response is, "Oh yes I did!" ad infinitum, pantomime style. I'm ten years younger and can even suggest her memory is at fault while mine is excellent. I could even offer to come to her house and help her look for them (I feel confident she would not want to invite me in to snoop around her private things!)

Anyone think of anything better than Jam's idea?

She was wrong to not pay you

You were wrong for selling goods that don't belong to you.

I may be wrong here, but her offence is a civil one but yours could well be classed as criminal.

Exactly why I wouldn't mention selling them - I get the feeling this woman is not one to give in and can be quite calculating in her actions and would not let it go.
