Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 11th June. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
Torrential rain, hail, thunder & lightening here last night & it's still raining this morning.
Hubby's working at school today, they are interviewing for replacement caretaker on Monday, I wonder if they'll find someone good.
Plans for today include lot's of lifting & shifting ready for next Saturday, spending time with DGS, we're planning on having him & his sister over alternated weekends, that way they get some 121 time with us. We'll do gardening if it stops raining & baking if it doesn't.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning Hester and all who follow,

We had torrential rain, thunder and hail here last night, it rained for about 3 hours, but this morning is a beautiful sunny day.

There was a young fox in the garden this morning, we often see them around here (the centre of a big city!), they are beautiful but I still feel angry towards them as one killed my much loved chickens a year ago.

Today I am taking DD2 to play in a netball tournament for the morning and then it will be food shopping this afternoon.

Tea tonight will probably be the HM fish pie that I have in the freezer with spring greens, we all love spring greens in this family!

Hugs to all that need them.

    Have a lovely day everyone:)

Good morning Hester, Moorhen and all to follow.

Wet and dull here at the moment and cold.

Have flowers on our runner beans now along with the french beans. So hopefully we will eat hg beans soon.

We are lucky enough to have eaten loads of strawberries, salad leaves, onions, cucumbers and spinach from the garden. Had the first courgette yesterday and the first potatoes are nearly ready. Tomatoes have little baby tomatoes on them and the melon has flowers.

Dinner today will be mozzarella stuffed chicken breast with salad and gratinated potatoes for 5 adults and parmesan coated chicken breast for the 3 DGSs.

Have a good weekend peeps, hugs to those who want or need.
    Cheers m'dears, Silver x

    Morning all :)

HH - what a lovely idea to spend 1-2-1 time with each of your grandchildren

Moorhen - one of my clients was telling me that when they lived in inner city London, a fox used to follow them when they walked their dog!! She said it was quite scary but it never did anything, just regularly followed them up and down the pavements.

I've got LOADS of fruit and veg to use up and not sure what to do with it all so will have a hunt on here in a minute ....

grapefruit, pineapple, limes, oranges, apples, bananas, leeks, beetroot, tomatoes, onions, sweet peas, cherry tomatoes, potatoes, cauliflour, lettuce , carrots, cabbage, cucumer

:D If anyone has any ideas what they would do with this lot and how you'd make it stretch then I'd love to hear them.

My usual trick when I have this much is to prep it all, put it in a stock pot and make lots of soup with the veg. As for the fruit ... well I'm ashamed to say that that some of that usually goes off

Today I've got a couple hours of work to do this morning and then the rest of the day off to enjoy with DD's. If it dries up we'll spend some time in the garden and if not we'll play board games .... either way there will definitely be some cooking going on in the kitchen

Hope everyone has a great day what ever you're up to and sending BIG (((HUGS))) to all those who want/need them xx

    Morning my lovelies :D

Gorgeous sunshine here albeit a bit cool.
Not sure what plans are today, want to take advantage of the nice weather and perhaps take the kids to the park for a run about.
Want to get some baking done, jam tarts and brownies I fancy :) and I need to make a loaf of bread.
Also want to start cutting out the fabric to make a bag like mine for my mum. Oh b*gger I also need to sort out something for fathers day and for our wedding anniversary next Sunday  <tootles off to look up what 7th Anniversary represents> Great Wool or Copper.....buy him a jumper at the start of Summer? Mind you it snowed at the top of Snowdon yesterday so perhaps a jumper would be a good idea ;)

Not sure what's for tea tonight.

Hugs and spoons all round. Have a good day OS or not.

    Silvermaid,

I am so jealous of your courgettes, I love courgettes and our plants are still so tiny I don't think we will get any courgettes off them till September!
I think that the spot that I planted them in is a bit too shady as it only gets sun for about half of the day, at least the slugs and the pigeons have left them alone!
    Enjoy eating yours:D

Feeling strong enough to tell you that we lost Dollycat Thursday evening. She was hit by a car and too badly hurt for the vet to save so he put her to sleep Thurday evening at about 11.

Please don't post about it as I am distraught but I wanted you all to know.

    Good morningx
A bit of a stressy day yesterday and Im pleased that its over. DD was sitting her A2 Environmental Sciences and despite Ofqual and the exam board AQA stating there were no more mistakes on the exam papers, DD's exam was interrupted half way through to say there was indeed a mistake on her paper:mad::mad::mad: Cue DD having massive panic attack and nearly being sick as she is highly stressed about these exams as she really wants to go to uni. She is up against it as it is due to very severe dyslexia and she has individual help during her exams. The poor invigilator didnt know what had hit her and it seems tried to help DD but she was gutted. Im getting on the phone on Monday morning and creating "Merry Hell" - its kid's futures they are messing around with:(:(:( Also had a huge row with Kids Dad last night about other stuff but that's sorted now and we made up;)

Good job too really as we off to spend a night in a posh hotel leaving DD in charge. Ds1 has been banned from the house as he is not to be trusted. This is the first time in 20 years that we have done this so Im excited on the one hand and nervous on the other. I have stocked up on food but they wont starve for one night. Will they???

Im shocked at the cost of food as did a C0stc0 shop yetserday. Flour, pasta, all my staples have gone up. I have to cut back as it's getting silly but I do have 6 adults to feed and DS2 is as scrawny as a rake but eats like a shire horse:eek::eek::eek: On his own he gets through 12 pints of milk a week.

Anyway the sun is shining so have a lovely day xx
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Really big hugs, you know who you are :( xxx

Brilliant sunshine here and freezing. Freezing at work last night as well. Off to bed in a mo. Glad I made cakes yesterday, just got to ice them when I get up.

Off to the cinema later with DS, 3 friends and ExOH for DS birthday then I have the 3 boys sleeping over. Going to see pirates and have taken out a small mortgage for the tickets. If I'm lucky ExOH might cough some money up but I'm not holding my breath. He really has got up my nose this week I don't know why I'm suprised that he's so mean, he's always been like it and that's why he's my ex!

Have a lovely day all and hugs to anyone who wants one.
