Reminds me of a saga my mum had on holiday in North Wales, in the hotel restaurant she asked for tap water and they said they weren't allowed to serve it, only bottled water. She she bit her lip and said "ok, we'll have some bottled water then" to which they replied "sorry we haven't got any"!! After much to-ing and fro-ing she even offered to pay for a glass of tap water but they still refused!!! In the end, she went up to the room, poured herself a glass of tap water from the bathroom and carried it back downstairs to drink with her meal!

What would they have done if someone was choking, pour them a pint of lager and hope for the best???

Guess where they WON'T be holidaying next summer...
  • In this instance they may have had a notice on their taps saying that the water is not drinking water - as we do at work now

    Part of the Furniture
We went to a Chinese restaurant for our Christmas meal at work last week.

A colleague and I bought a glass of wine each, and asked for a glass of tap water each as well.
The waitress said she couldn't serve us tap water, I forget what she actually said, but it was something along the lines that they couldn't serve tap water as they had had complaints about it making people ill!!!

    How worring is that?!!
We should have left the restaurant at that point, tap water is supposed to be of really high quality in the UK isn't it?!
  • i posted about this a few weeks ago. was it a chinese buffet by any chance?

yes it was and what made it worse was the waiters were well offish i heard them being rude to some young fellows who asked the waiter a reasonable question i for one wont be going back again.
Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)
  • Try asking staff in an unassuming way for their work permits and passports! It may make a difference

Why dredge up a thread from nine months ago?

Your assumption that all workers in Chinese restaurants are illegal immigrants (I assume this was your point) is plain ignorant, and not really welcome here.
    Gone ... or have I?

I've noticed a bit of this recentely, new posters bringing up ancient threads for no apparent reason.

Whatever next!!! Take a bottle of water with you and drink out of it or will they charge you for breathing the air in the restaurant. What if you fainted and needed a glass of water, would they root around your pocket for the money?

Perhaps you could take a bottle of water and a chinese takeaway with you as well !!!!
