Orange account cancellation problems

I do agree with custardy on one thing, you should never ever just cancel a DD without telling the company first, infact it is something that when cancelling a DD you should be advised.
If someone does cancel and not inform the relevant company then it can lead to a default in some cases. If a DD is refused the person can end up with non payment of DD charges and eventually an account could fall into default.
Believe me it does happen, when people think they have ended a contract and then end up 6 months down the line receiving a default notice or a notice from a debt collection agency.
All Orange representive here has done is confirm that their companies procedures are still ridiculous and there are far better ways of dealing with the move from PAYM to PAYG as I said earlier.0 -
This doesn't make it right and stinks of sharp practice. PAYG is exactly that PAYG, as the OP was clearly not using it, what gives you the right to keep taking his money, not all T&C's are fair and I am sure a small claims judge would agree.Orange_Company_Representative wrote: »Hi all,
Just to clarify a few things, Custardy is correct in saying when a transfer from PAYM to PAYG is requested at the end of any agreement a SIM is sent and the user advised it must be registered to close the PAYM account. An accompanying letter is also sent with the SIM.
As the account holder has requested a PAYG SIM we are unable to disconnect the PAYM account until the SIM is registered as we assume they wish to keep their number active. If the account is closed we are unable to transfer the number to PAYG and it is lost.
If the account holder changes their mind and no longer wishes to keep their number and fully close the account they need to call back to request disconnection. Moving to PAYG is a transfer not a disconnection request.
Hope this clears a few things up,

It was clear he wanted to cancel, but was instead talked into taking out a PAYG sim just in case he needed his old number, clearly a tactic that will fool a lot of people.
Tell me Orange helper, what would have happened if he did cancel his DD? Would you have chased him for the missed payments, NO because he cancelled his contract. So what gives you the right to keep it now.0 -

just because you put letters in capitals doesnt make it so
the contact wasnt cancelled,so the payments were due
honestly some folks need hand held through everything in life
the OP was given the option to go PAYG
just because some are too foolish to take care of their business, doesnt make it a sharp practive
the OP was told on the phone and got a letter to follw that up when the sim arrived0 -
Just because it's in their T&C's doesnt make it right or legal. If you go through life believing everything you read you will always be walked over.just because you put letters in capitals doesnt make it so

If the OP sends a LBA then Orange will fold like a house of cards. Do you really think they want another one of their sharp practices dragged though the courts. No chance.0 -

what T&Cs? the OP chose to go PAYG rather than just cancel the contract.
seems some folks dream of a nanny state to coddle them through life0 -
Today I spent an hour or so on the phone to an obnixious nasty operator at Orange trying to understand why myself and my husbands contracts had not been cancelled. He told us that the reason was because we had requested a PAYG sim card. We told him that we may have said yes when they asked if we wanted to swap the number to a PAYG sim card but I can 100% guarantee that no one advised when we would get the sim cards, no one advised that they needed to be activated, no one adviced that the contracts that we had been asked to cancel would not be cancelled if we put 1 sim card in the kitchen drawer and if the other one did not arrive. We were told by Aaron who won't tell us his surname but will tell us where he sits that sometimes the operator tells you the information but sometime they forget!? that's why there is a letter with the sim card! Well guess what Aaron with the sim card that did actually arrive there was not a letter so obviously I must now have to be a mind reader and if anyone can point out where thee so called T&C are that are meant to explain this so called process then I will be very greatful and yes Orange if I have anything to do with it after Aaron (your lovely kind considerate customer service repreentative) left me in tears on the phone after his nasty and abusive attitude then you will be ending up in the small claims court.:mad:0

Yes Custardy, usually I would have placed more spaces, paragraphs and been making more sense but I was exhauted stressed and had just been speaking with an absolute idiot on an hour long phone call.
I think if someone kept repeating ' we sent you the sim cards, we sent you the sim cards' to everything you said and every comment you made then you might have been a bit burnt out. Thank you for replying .....but constructive it was not
